    .iso anyone? (Linux/.iso question)

So, I'm beginning to turn into a Linux nerd, and am trying to install Linux onto a spare harddrive I have, so I can dual boot. I got the .iso for the latest Kubuntu, and began burning it to DVD.

The computer hits an error, DVD ruined. I go to grab another one... I don't have any.

I want to know if anyone knows if it's possible to mount the .iso, and install the Linux onto the other harddrive. Any help is appreciated.

I know it's possible to mount .iso files, but is it really impossible to boot from them when they are mounted?

You could try booting Linux from a USB thumb drive.

That requires a 4Gig thumb drive is the problem. I have an external harddrive, but that's about half full of stuff. Could I boot from that?

And would you mind explaining how to boot from the thumb drive?

Damn Small Linux is only 50 MB. It doesn't have everything you'd probably want, but it will expand your options from there.

If I get a few hours, I'll bother explaining the process, but this site probably does a better job than I could anyway:
