    The Belgariad, MY Harry Potter

Did anyone else read this series? Similar to Harry Potter, it's the coming of age story of a kickass sorcerer. It was the series I read growing up in grade school, and my friends were the ones who actually told me I had to read them.

I loved the characters. Silk was my favorite...prince by birth, but otherwise a conniving sarcast rat faced man, acrobatic and deadly with a knife, and always up for making a profit. Oh, and he's one of the good guys.

Still...did anyone else read these? I have very fond memories of this series.

holy crap!!! These anime renditions of the characters are so bad ass. The guy in the tree is Silk, who I mentioned earlier. Here's bigger version links not to ruin the thread size.

I havent' read The Belgariad, but my Harry Potter would have to be:
The Prydain Chronicles by Lloyd Alexander.
(The Black Cauldron was part of the series, if it sounds vaguely familiar.)

I've never seen main characters (a male and a female) go from childhood to young adults so realistically and naturally. It isn't just a physical change, you can very much perceive their personalities maturing as direct results of their experiences within the stories. It's flat-out amazing characterization.
So you're a fish out of water...
      Keep swimming.
      What else can you do?

This is something that will whet the appetites of Harry Potter fans! Especially now since the final book has been published.
