    The NBA's latest headache

The NBA continues to get a bad rap. First the Basketbrawl, then the Kobe controversies.....and now this.

The NBA's been hurt before, and this will only hurt it further. A sacred trust has been violated because of one referee and his gambling problem. What's worse--there may be more referees involved in this.

    Serious damage control is expected.

I say exterminate the NBA. It's just an evolutionary leftover anyway.

Bull****. People don't care as much as the media lets on. Yeah some people are going to be more distrustful of refs but everyone always complains about the refs. To the casual fan this maybe a problem. People like Misty reacting like this. But one ref does not a conspiracy make. Now if they find out that this was more than one guy. Then you've got a problem.

Of course none of this would have happened on Joey Crawford's watch.

          Not for betting on basketball.

At least Stern makes it sound like the worst thing to happen to basketball.

I still say give me basketball over baseball any day.

It was the same way with the gambling ring that was busted up in the NHL with Rick Tocchet being charged. Not really huge news except for hockey insiders, except for the tenuous relation with Grezky's wife being involved, but only because the media was just aching for any implication to make toward Gretzky himself.

They made a big deal of Michael Jordan's non-basketball related gambling as well, sometimes the insinuation becomes a story in itself.

I don't see this having any real impact on the NBA fanbase/profits. But as a commissioner of any professional sport, you have to come down like a ton of bricks any time there's a whiff of this stuff.

So far, this is an isolated case. For now, no other refs have been named.

But I do agree that action needs to be taken--even if it involves just one individual.
