Pavilion music compilation-Deadline for requests extended.

Here's a project I've been thinking of doing for the better part of this week. Obright and I talked about doing something like this a few months ago, so I'm making a post to do it now.

I want to compile a song or songs from anyone here at the Pav that makes their own music and make a Pav compilation. How I want to do this is as follows:

I'm gonna make a poll as to if people would rather have an MP3 disc made, in which case I can accept 10 artists and 60 MB of material from each; or would they rather have an audio CD, in which case I will accept 10 artists with a maximum of 7 and a half minutes of music allotted to them. This would mean that if you want to submit a seven and a half minute song, that would be okay, or if you want to submit a four minute song and a three and a half minute song, or any combination thereof, that would be fine too.

When the poll closes (I'll make it a two week poll), artists will be able to submit their works, depending on how the vote goes.

When the CDs are made, each of the ten artists will be sent a full-color disc (my buddy Eric just bought a printer that prints images directly onto a CD, and offered to make some for me). Once the CDs are compiled, I will make a post in this thread offering to make twenty more for regular Pavilion members. Anyone can request one, but I will put a time limit on the requests, and if more than 20 people want one, I will draw randomly as to who gets one. The first five people whose names I draw will get a Lightscribed version of the CD, and the other 15 will get theirs on a regular blank CD-R.

Watch this thread for further details. I will not be taking artists requesting to be on the CD until after the poll closes. If more than 10 artists want to submit material, I'll once again do a random drawing to see who gets put on the CD (as I am hosting this project, my material is guaranteed to be put on it).

Questions? Comments? Please post. And to all Pavvies (artist or otherwise) who are interested in this, please feel free to vote.

I plan on investing a tidy sum in this, but this is one way to show my love to the Pav. Plus, my contest thread is going nowhere (*sigh*), and I'm now making good enough money to be able to afford to do this.

*prays that this thread doesn't die a quick death*

Oh, and someone, please contact Pandable to see if he's interested in this.

Considering my CD burner is kaput, and I'm on a dialup connection, I voted MP3.

Also, do you need some sleeve art?

Oh, and Pandable's HD exploded. I haven't seen him on YIM in about a month or more. I sent him a message, but I don't even know if he got it.

I haven't figured out all the details yet, but if you want to send a folder which contains the album art, feel free to do so. It's also possible by customizing the folder so when you view the folder itself, the album art shows up.

Also, I'm just curious....who stickied this? A heartfelt thanks to whoever did.

Can I call shotgun cd? Because I totally want one. Make sure B-Wire gets involved!

Whoa! This is a really cool idea.

While I love messing around with my Funkmaster Flex's Digital Hitz Factory PS2 game, I don't really have any music I would consider worthy to be on a CD like this.

Just out of curiosity what's the difference between a lightscribed CD and a regular blank CD-R one?

Lightscribe is a special laser that etches a monochrome image onto the CD itself....I'm planning on making (or having one of the artists make) an image to use for the CD, and print the artist ones in full color, and the five lightscribed ones have the same image in monochrome.

Well, MP3 would be more environmentally friendly, but with a CD, one could download to an iPod and listen to it on the CD player. I'm torn.

Umm...they're both going to be on a CD, so neither is more or less environmentally friendly than the other.

                  This is a great idea.

I voted for audio CD because it evenly samples music from everyone, though albeit short.

If we don't get a CD, could we send a bit of money over to get one?

                      Re: Pavilion music compilation

I had thought about asking for a few bucks from everyone who wins one to recoup some of my losses, but I think I can swing $70-$100 to make these and send them all out...

To answer your question directly, though, I only really want to make 20 non-artist CDs, even if I was to get paid for the possibility of making more. I kind of want there to be an "exclusive" nature in terms of winning one, and thus don't want to make them semi-readily available.

                      My two suggestions to you:

1)You, Hito, and [SKYE] should all request one when the time comes, thus upping your chances of one of you receiving one.

2)If none of you win one, you can always contact someone that has won one, and see if they can transfer the songs to you over AIM or a PTP network.

We got Fruple and Jase too, so it might work...

                            Okay... What's the difference, then?

If I had my recording equipment I would definitely submit something. What kind of deadline are you looking for? I'm still very interesting in everyone else’s music though.

I'll try and contact my friend Aaron, Geno, he doesn't post here all that often, I'm sure he would contribute to the project.
