I'm pretty sure it's because I was trying to form an alliance with Ryner for Pav Survivor. I just gave rep to Nixon so it'll probably crash again any second now.The Cyclops having only one eye, needed to seek shelter from the harsh sun. The shadow cast by the spheres gave him temporary respite.
