Re: Snaking and wavedashing in Super Smash Bros. games
I'm actually not sure what snaking is, but wavedashing was quite valuable. Me and all my friends were pretty good at it, so it was just another move in our arsenals.
Re: Snaking and wavedashing in Super Smash Bros. games
I've mastered wavedashing. Don't even know what snaking is, must be a new term. But I don't see adv. techs as cheating. They are just something in the game that makes matches more fun and exciting.
Re: Snaking and wavedashing in Super Smash Bros. games
Wavedashing is what they do in Super Smash Bros. I have no problem with that. It doesn't totally give you an advantage over your opponent, but it is pretty skillful to master.
Snaking is what they do in Mario Kart DS. I have a big problem with that. It completely dominates your opponent unless he starts snaking too. It's also not that hard to do, so there's really not much skill involved.
It's also incredibly lame to join up with a good group of players after searching for 15 minutes, only to see one/two of them have 352 wins / 0 loses.
Then maybe you guys need to stop playing competitive games. I don't know why you want the game dumb-downed so the clearly better player, who has mastered all the moves can't dominate the player who doesn't know anything. That's stupid.
Edit: Though snaking sounds game breaking. Wave dashing is definitely not.
I wouldn't call them cheating exactly. They're darbing. Which is when you do something cheap that takes advantage of a glich or oversight in a game's programing. Like using Noob Saibots' teleport kick nonstop in Mortal Kombat or some other unbreakable combo/move. Or finding a glitch in a deathmatch map and use it to camp.
Generally the people that do it are ***holes who'd rather get a cheap victory and a legitimate one.
I'll admit that I don't play SSBM so I've never dealt with wavedashing but from what I've read about it's still exploiting a glitch so I put include it with snaking.
Anyone else have another example of things like this?
The thing about exploits is that, while some actually add to a game and are incorporated into canon, I think others can negate the use of many skills that used to be essential.
If you want to win at Double Dash, you need to know how to:
-Conserve and utilize items to identify and neutralize your greatest threats.
-Observe obstacles and block oncoming projectiles.
-Communicate with your partner to play to your strengths and bring the blue sparks.
If you want to win at MK: DS, you need to know how to:
-Snake.
I mean, maybe I'm wrong, I barely played the damn game, and I've never encountered anyone who used wavedashing. It demonstrates my feeling about exploits in general, though.
EDIT: Me and Magus ran into a sniper like that in Halo. We left that particular game, along with many others.
