    Area 51 PSX: GunCon Woes

So, a week or so ago I got Area 51 for the Playstation Original, a port of the hit arcade game (not to be confused with the PS2 Area 51, which I hear is loosely based on the arcade game).

I hook it up to the PS2, and the GunCon2 doesn't work with it. No problem: after a few days I get a couple GunCon originals (and Time Crisis in the process).

    They don't work either.

I tried another brand of GunCon, and it didn't work either. I'm starting to think these Namco guns won't work with Area 51, originally made by Mesa Logic and produced by Atari (I think), but ported to the PSX with the help of Midway. Can anyone help me find a suitable gun controller?

There was a guncon type controler that I had that worked with both Area 51 and Time Crisis. I'll take a look and see if I can find a pic and brand name.

I think Area 51 was released before the GunCon.

          Thanks.

Looks expensive, but if that's the only one that works.... Still, if it doesn't work, then that means there's probabbly a problem with the disk... which is strange, since it works perfectly fine in other areas...

          Would this work as well?

While I'm on-topic, does Area 51 have a save function at all? So far it seems "no" is the answer, but in that case what would be the point of a high scores list?

The Gun Con was specifically made for Time Crisis, and I wouldn't be surprised Namco made all their controllers for Time Crisis and any other Guncon games they may have made.

The Guncon never worked for Area 51 for me, either, BTW, so I think you just need to get a non-Namco controller.

It's been awhile since I played Area 51, but I think it could save high scores.

              As expected.

Was this made by Namco? If it's not, then I'll have to get the expensive one.

How do you save high scores? The PS1 I have doesn't seem to recognize memory cards, but I'd like to play Area 51 without setiing the settings to what I want them to be again and again.

I was also thinking about renting Area 51 for the PS2. Anyone know if it's any good?
