    All pasta diet - FATAL?

I've decided to try an all pasta diet to see if I can keep the weight down. It's not just pasta: I also mix in whichever vegetables I find lying around.

So, do you think I can survive on this diet?

You can do quite a bit with pasta. It's a staple food like rice, lentils, beans, etc. It depends on how you mix and match your vegetables and meats with it. Italians seem to be doing pretty well. You might try taking a good multivitamin alongside if you're worried about malnutrition. Don't we have a resident cook? Anyway, good food starts with good ingredients, try to buy fresh whenever possible.

I've found (and this is coming from someone who shed about 100 lbs two years ago) that if you feel like you're denying yourself the foods you really want, or you feel like you're going hungry, you'll never stay on the diet. Balance and moderation are the keys. Adding in physical exercise can produce more dramatic results, but I didn't find it strictly necessary. A big part of what helped me was cutting out the over-processed bull**** I'd been gorging on, sodas being the the biggest culprit.

I don't grow bored if I eat the same thing over and over. In fact, different shaped pastas are enough for me.

                  Too many carbs!

Eating all pasta isn't good for you. You need a balanced diet. And exercies!

Maybe include some beans for protein intake? All carbs and no protein sounds too dangerous. Methinks the key to healthy diet resulting in weight loss is reduction of overall calorie intake and not denying yourself any one nutrient.

I took a fitness class last semester, and the professor told us that for safe weight loss, you're supposed to reduce your daily calorie intake by 500 calories each day in order to lose a pound each week (for example, instead of eating 2000 calories each day, only eat 1500). Combined with staying away from soda/junk food and 30min exercise each day, this worked wonders for me.

Just curious: are you overweight and trying to lose weight, or just trying to maintain a healthy weight?

In the beginning the universe was created. This made a lot of people very angry and is widely considered as a bad move.

The pasta I have has 7G of protein per serving, and eight servings per box. I'm pretty sure I'm getting enough protein from the pasta.

I'm just trying to maintain a healthy weight and I'm trying to stay away from fast food. I might be a little overweight (190lb at 6'3").

If that's overweight, then I'm a lard ass. I'm about the same weight at 5'10".

Yeah maybe a little bit, but really exercising is what is going to do the most, specifically a bit of weight training if you want to keep it off. Though of course to do that you need some protein. From what I've heard building muscle helps to burn calories even after your workout by raising resting metabolic rate, while cardio just burns the calories during your workout (of course since I'm pretty skinny I'm looking to add some muscle). Plus all those carbs will turn to fat if you don't use them, and carbs usually give quite a bit of energy.

So Fatal, probably not, not good for you, more than likely, a way to lose weight, probably not, definitely not if without exercise.

This is unlikely to cause diabetes unless the ingredients use high fructose corn syrup, GMOs, or other nasties. And even if they do, at least it is still far healthier than fast food.

This diet sounds expensive. Vegetables are somewhat expensive.

But keep in mind we're omnivores. Some people will need animal protein of sorts.
