Ok I need some help here.

I've been playing a certain Ragnarok Online private server for a while and just recently I logged in only to have the administrator and his friends harass me and then ban my account. Not only that but they posted my IP on the forums and threatened to screw up my computer.

Now this may be just a bluff but incase I wan't to safeguard my computer against stuff like this but how would I go about doing that?

You guys are computer knowledgable and have answered some of my questions before so I figure you will be the best to ask.

Well depending on how good they are, people can get around anything, as most security measures are for keeping out the less knowledgeable. That being said a Firewall is one of the best starting points. I recommend Zonealarm, but maybe others have found better ones. Next step is getting a virus protection, not sure what the best is but I think trying something like PCCillin, instead of getting the big two Norton and McAffe, might be the better route as if someone is going to make a good virus they're going to test against the biggest virus scanners first. Also I recommend SpyBot Search and Destroy, as in addition to being a good spyware scanner, it also alerts you to changes in your registry.

Of course if you don't mind trying Linux that might be an option, it's fairly safe, and has it's own firewall that you normally configure on install.

Really that's about all you can do, I guess there might be a few more hardcore options for security, but those usually limit your freedom as well. Also make sure you have a strong password for Windows (meaning 8+ characters, all from various character classes (lower/upper case, symbol, number)). Beyond that backup any important data just in case, and monitor your system for any suspicious activity through the various system logs.

Not sure if you can do anything to then through Ragnarok, or some other authority for their actions, but that might be something worth looking into as well.

Thanks for your help coolness. I'll take your advice.

Currently I have Comodo firewall pro. I'm not exactly sure how good it is but it was the third link on google and it's free for life so it seems very good. Also it's stopped a lot of threats so far.

I just ran my virus scan with my Verizon virus scanner that came with my service thingy. It picked up quite a few spyware and even a Trojan but I don't know how it measure's up to the virus scanners you were talking about, I'll give that one a try.

I also got a Password Protector which seems to do it's job well, has all it's anti-peeking and anti-monitoring stuff but I'll look into the Spy Bot search and destroy.

So far I know they can hack passwords because they managed to get into my photobucket account with just my username, found that with a picture I posted on the forums. I changed my password though but I don't know if that's enough.

So far it's been one day since the threat and nothing has happened to my computer. They may have just been bluffing after all but just incase I'll take your advise.

report them to their isp, legal authorities, etc.
protect your ****, laugh at them, etc.
they stop, cry themselves to sleep, etc.

I might do just that but I think I've taken the proper precautions, they aren't doing a thing to this comp. At least not without my permission.

Its not illegal to post someone's IP address. I do it here and at agetec's forum.

Well basically me and the administrator have been butting heads for a while. I kept telling him his donation items are unbalanced and overpowered and we disagreed about other ingame stuff. All of the donators on that server are very rude to you and that day I got banned one of the donators was harassing me and the Admin as well and after a while they just banned me.

I got really ****** so I bashed the donators and the admin on the forums a bit so he posted my IP. I know maybe bashing him wasn't the best thing to do but I had to let out 2 weeks of rage from listening to the donators big mouths before I left that server.
