I need RPG help

So it's summer, and I'm going to have a lot of free time. I'm in the process of (FINALLY) beating FFX, and I should be done, eh, tomorrow-ish (I was in the Zanarkand Dome since I got the game).

ANYWAY, here's what I'm asking you guys for. I want to find a GOOD RPG to play when I'm done with it. I have a PS2, Xbox and Gamecube at my disposal. I'm actually not very well versed in RPGs at all, so almost anything you suggest I won't have played.

Keep in mind, I pretty much have ONLY played the Final Fantasy series, so anything that strays too far from the FF style will probably not be that interesting to me right off the bat. Also, I'd prefer something older, but not rare, so I can pick it up cheap, haha.

What do you guys think?

Well you could go with the classics. Off the top of my head the best one would be Dark Cloud 2 if you haven't played it yet. I think it's usually on the more expensive side. I don't think it's actually that rare that you'd have trouble finding it but just rare and popular enough to cost $20 or more. If you have played it then I'd recommend Rogue Galaxy.

Or maybe you should even look at PS1 rpgs you've never played. Personally I think there are far more quality PS1 rpgs than PS2. But Mora or Patryn will probably try to sell you on some SMT stuff. Don't believe their lies.

I second Grandia 2, and also submit for your consideration Skies of Arcadia (if you're buying that Dreamcast) or Skies of Arcadia Legends for the Gamecube.

Shin Megami Tensei Nocturne or Dragon Quest VIII.

Nocturne can be difficult, but it's really rewarding. DQVIII is just plain old school fun.

Odin Sphere is a very good game--I'd give that a go. It's very fun, and keeps you on your toes.

Other possible suggestions from me ..... Dragon Quest VIII, Rogue Galaxy, Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeira and Star Ocean: Till the End of Time. I think VP2 went down in price--about $30. Star Ocean and DQVIII are now $20.

Also, if you don't mind going on a scavenger hunt for harder-to-find old titles, I encourage you to seek out Dual Hearts (an oldie, but a goodie!), the original Dark Cloud, Legaia 2 Duel Saga, and Shining Tears.

I know, I have a lot for you to choose from......but any one of these games I think you'd enjoy.

Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne, is the greatest PS2 game I've ever played.

But that's just my style. It's all dark and goth and ****. I am going to try to get Hell Biker in my party, if it's possible. He's my favorite character. If I could be any undead creature I wanted, it wouldn't be a zombie like many would think, but an undead ******* skeleton dude riding a ******* Harley Davidson and wearing leather.

It's possible to get Hell Biker, he has "attack-all" I think?

Also, if you don't mind going on a scavenger hunt for harder-to-find old titles, I encourage you to seek out Dual Hearts (an oldie, but a goodie!), the original Dark Cloud, Legaia 2 Duel Saga, and Shining Tears.

The fact that you left out Legend of Legaia IS A CRIME UPON HUMANITY! I suggest you check it out if you don't mind the PS jaggies ST, it's a decent game with an awesome battle system.

The SMT PS2 games(except Devil Summoner), Star Ocean 2 and DQVIII are my picks.

I second most of the games suggested. Especially Persona 3. You summon monsters by blowing your brains out with a gun.

Sometime a bit later this year, Wild ARMs Vth Vanguard will be available for the PS2. It shares many features with the fourth game, and its story was penned by a famous young Japanese novelist.

yea, grandia 2 would be a really good choice, but the ps2 version did get chopped up a little. added to what's already been mentioned, i'll say suikoden III and xenosaga episode I for ps2 and baten kaitos for gamecube. all of those could be found for cheap too if i'm not mistaken.

Let's see...

Tales of Legendia, Tales of the Abyss, Star Ocean The Second Story (if you can get your hands on it), both Valkyrie Profile games. That's about all I can come up with right now.

Skies of Arcadia is good, but the insane amount of random battles will grate on your nerves.

For the Xbox I would say grab Star Wars KOTOR 1 and 2, as both are amazing titles, easy to find, and used, shouldn't set you back more than 15 dollars a piece. On the same track, Jade Empire is great, also made by Bioware, and again, used, is only 15 bucks.
