Tim Rogers said Monster Hunter was nerfed for American release or something to that effect. Is the second one set for release here yet?

Also, many of these uses are useless or just... sarcastic. A light! WOWIE ZOWIE

And Portable Ops wasn't mentioned so **** that ****.

Re: 60 reasons to own a PSP

Monster Hunter (PS2) was edited so that it didn't have all the blood when attacking monsters. Monster Hunter Freedom (PSP) kept the blood, but didn't spout as much when attacking. I dunno about MHF2, but it's set for a september release in the states. Already preordered it from the Capcom website.

I think the amount of blood was used as a sign of where a monster's weak point was at. The more blood, the better spot to go after.

Yes! That's what I read. They wanted to get rid of numbers.

Also: Reasons #4 and 37 are contradictory. You can't play homebrew if you update the software and vice versa.

Re: 60 reasons to own a PSP

I disagree with some things on this list.

              2. Play PS1 games via Playstation store or on Custom Firmware.
requires you to also own a PS3, or have custom firmware that can be confusing to set up, not to mention the conversion process for games is confusing to most people as well.

              3. Download and play demos.
when they're actually released, and when the demos are actually of something you want to play. although I am thankful for all the loco roco demo love.

              4. Play some great homebrew games like Pollo Pollo or Hexaxis.
              Requires custom firmware.

              5. Play flash games on the go.
only if they don't give you the "out of memory" message that users of it's web browser see so often.

              6. Play UMD movies with their near DVD quality and falling prices.
              HAHAHAHAHAHA no.

              7. Convert and play all your own video to watch on the go.
Conversion increases file sizes, can take hours, often stretches the video, and it can take several tries to get it to the right quality that you can even watch it.

              12. Use with Xbox 360 and USB cable to listen to music in games and view images on TV.
You can also use a 10 dollar USB storage device for this.

              13. Downloadable content for games like Burnout and Killzone.
              and little else.

              14. Location free video streaming.
which requires an insanely expensive piece of hardware.

              16. Use a portable web browser.
everything has a web browser these days. no advantage.

              17. Can attach a camera via USB Chotto Shot/Go!Cam.
not available in the US, and no software available here supports it anyways.

              18. Attach GPS device to the top.
              not available in the US.

              19. 6 official colours available (also the MGS:PO version).
              not in the US.

              20. Customizable faceplates.
requires you to void your warranty, and it's impossible to get the PSP closed without getting dust trapped in the screen.

              21. Various mods available.
              none worth using.

              22. Gamesharing features.
              very rare.

              24. Infrastructure multiplayer.
              incredibly rare.

              26. Can be used as a calculator with correct flash applications.
              calculators are cheaper.

              27. Can be used as a calendar with correct flash applications.
calendars are cheaper. and also available smaller than the PSP.

              28. Recent price cuts make it more affordable.
we finally caught up to the japanese launch price.

              30. Millions of websites dedicated to bringing PSP content.
not millions. maybe dozens. and they all have the same content.

              31. New VoIP feature coming soon.
coming soon. PSP users are used to waiting though.

              33. Also with a black screen or if its turned off it can be used as a mirror!
              really reaching now

              35. Games from any region can be played.
big duh there. every portable is region-free.

              36. Dark Alexes custom firmware deserves to be a reason!
yeah, he's making it possible for people to pirate the games, and thus kill the system by scaring more devs away. hailing someone responsible for the eventual death of the system as a hero is kind of funny though.

              37. PSP software is always updated.
because sony's in a losing war with above asshole.

              39. Emulators can be used on it.
PIRACY ISNT A GOOD THING. and its funny that this always comes up as an advantage, because it only points out that many people arent buying the PSP to play PSP games.

              40. Plugins allow for software modification and added features
as far as I'm aware, this isnt possible.

              41. Greatest hits titles are of the best selling games and are cheaper to buy.
the best selling PSP games are often the worst the system has to offer.

              43. IR can be used with some homebrew applications to make use of it as no official software uses it.
yeah, lets remind everyone about features sony ignores and pretend its a good thing.

              44. Messenger is available on the PSP browser (MSN/AIM/Yahoo)
              and everything else.

              45. Can send photos and images to local PSP’s via Ad Hoc.
I've never seen another PSP user in the wild.

              46. Music is playable through headphones or speakers.
the speakers suck for music playback.

              48. Some PS3 games are set to use the PSP as a controller of sorts.
Sony insulted the same thing with the GBA/GC.

              50. Analogue nub can be removed and replaced with larger versions.
but it's still a nub, and not a proper stick

              52. Various PSP packs available for different price ranges.
and only one of them is worth buying.

              53. Streaming highlights and replays at football matches next Premiership season!
              I dont care about this.

              54. Ad Hoc games can be played online with X Link Kai
which is very confusing to setup (I never got it to work)

              59. Google videos can be downloaded to the PSP and Youtube videos can be converted and downloaded too.
              YAY CONVERTING.

                I'm glad I have a PSP. I certainly don't need 60 reasons why.

So what do you use your PSP for?

I knew those reasons were bull****, so thanks Valk for taking the time to explain why.

eh, there's plenty of reasons to own the thing, just... not many of them that were stated in the article. especially if you dont want to break copyright laws.

the only reason I dont own one right now is because I'm waiting for the inevitable redesigned one that hopefully won'y have as many problems as the current one does (and hopefully be harder for people to hack).

Well harder just means it's going to take them a couple of months, and usually ends up making it harder on the end user to do legal things with the thing. I personally am not a huge fan of really complex copy protection schemes as eventually it's going to be cracked, released to the internet, and easily usable by anyone who knows where to go, and typically limits the ability to make legal backup copies. Plus it costs tons of money to implement that gives them maybe a week before rampant pirating, so I think it's not worth the investment in most cases. The problem is the hackers are just as smart, and there are more of them, so in the end it ends up fairly useless as it will only stop people from making backup copies of things they own, while the rampant copying across the net they want to stop is what is not curtailed. The other issue is the fact it's all digital, and it's pretty easy to copy digital things and always will be. So certainly there should be something, but I don't think it should be a huge focus.

So while a great idea in theory, usually it just takes power away from the consumer wanting to stay legit and does nothing to the hacker, or even just normal pirate. I think focusing more on making games people actually want to purchase would be much more beneficial in the long run.

As for the list I agree with Valk, and also want to point out that Memory Stick Pro Duo pretty much only works on Sony products.
