Is it possible to make a bridge?

Is it possible to make a bridge without warping that goes over water on a field map?

If you're good enough with the field editor, it is possible to make a land bridge.

Something I'm going to be attempting to do pretty soon is a situation where some monsters have demolished a bridge. Some guys from town have been trying to rebuild the bridge, but the monsters keep harassing them.

Here's what I have in mind. Two, possibly three "fallen tree" objects side by side form the bridge. These will be events, so that they can be displayed off. At the west side of the bridge, an invisible event asks if you'd like to cross the bridge. Say Yes, and you get moved to the other side. The east side of the bridge will have another "transportation" event so you can get back across.

So at game start, all five of these events will be displayed off. Then when you deal with the monsters and the guys from town are able to build a new bridge, the events will be displayed on. It should work.

The only thing I'm worried about is the length of the "fallen tree" object. It may not be long enough to stretch across a typical river. I may have to create a ridiculously narrow river. Oh, I almost forgot! To suspend the logs over the water, I'm going to create a shallow region of the river and then raise the elevation of the logs.

Another thing you can do with this concept is create a bridge linking two mesas. Create a mesa with a path that offers access to the top, then make another one nearby, with a narrow path going between the mesas. Place two or three decorative "fallen tree"s and raise them up as far as they can go. Then you just need two invisible "transport" events, one for each side of the "bridge". I've already tested this idea. Again, the problem lies with the length of the logs. The two mesas have to be very close to each other. There's also an additional problem with the height of the logs. The mesas need to be pretty low to the ground for it to work. You can't have a high bridge spanning mountain tops that tower above the landscape. But if it works, the result will be a bridge that you can walk under, then ascend a path to the top of a mesa, cross the bridge (so to speak), and continue on from there.

If you're not going to be doing anything special with your bridge (like what I described above), I'd suggest working on a narrow land bridge. I've successfully created a few that cross rivers. A notable advantage of doing this is that your land bridge can be as long as you want it to be.

That idea does involve "warping", but it's still a good idea. You wouldn't have to make the whole tiver short, just the crossingpoint (probably why it's the crossing point). You could also make multiple Fallen Trees end to end. If that works, you could also try doing it with Quarry Stones.

It's pretty easy to make a land bridge in the map editor, just avoid putting water where the "bridge" would be. Also, if you're using the smoothing tool to round out the river banks, be careful not to use it on the bridge, otherwise the thing will end up underwater.

Yeah, quarry stones would work just as well for a stone bridge crossing water. But yeah, I don't see a way to do it without a warp or "move player" event. I haven't tested this, but I doubt it would be possible to walk over the surface of a decorative object (such as a quarry stone) if it were placed in such a way that the surface of the object exactly matches with the adjacent landscape. Even if it's possible, you'd have to match up the height of each quarry stone exactly, so that they form a seamless bridge; and you'd have to match them up exactly with the riverbed on either side.

A land bridge is the best way to go.

My land is a mountain so I couldn't do that. I ended up just having Ed replace all of the bridges with warp points anyway.
