    Ikaruga

So I got it in the mail yesterday and aside from being a little ticked off by it's condition--the seller said it was in perfect working condition, but failed to mention the manual and outside cover have coffee stains on it.

    *ahem*

What a game. I can't even get past the second stage but I'm loving it. I don't like how they brag about the "manga art style and storytelling" yet I haven't seen any of it. Maybe I need to get further? But the gameplay is solid.

    Re: Ikaruga

there is no manga art and no storytelling. it is, however, the best shooter ever. i have logged over 100 hours into my copy.

don't worry about not getting far. Just keep playing. It is a game of memorization. and once you get better, go download some videos of pros playing (there used to be a uk ikaruga site http://www.ikaruga.co.uk/ but its been down lately) and try to imitate those.

I can beat the game without using a continue. but that took me about 35 hours of play to do. but, more fun the staying alive, is concentrating on points. doing all the combos. 3 and 3 and 3 and 3 and so on.

man. i still put the game in and play through about once a week.

edit: oh, and when I said there was no storytelling, I meant no storytelling in the traditional sense. the end cutscene is breathtaking, especially once you learn that every ship in the game is named after a bird. and the warning signs before each boss are japanese prayers for protection. breathtaking.

Bought it, sold it, don't regret selling it.

Is this the one with that black/white theme or something? If it's the game I'm thinking it is, I've heard nothing but good things about it.

EDIT:I read the review, and I guess dark/light is more accurate than black/white....

I played it once at a friends house, pretty fun, and I'm glad that there's co-op mode. I really like games of that genre

With many top-down shooters (and whenever I fight battle droids in Star Wars games) I imagine that the enemy consists of legions of semi-intelligent machines, commanded by an intelligent "hive mind".

My little brother was playing it a few nights ago, and now I want to.

Haven't made it past the fourth stage.

This was the last DC game, right?

I've been meaning to try it. If I can't locate the DC version, I sincerely hope it appears elsewhere sometime in the near future.

It wasn't the last DC game by any means. DC games have continued to be released in japan up until, I think, like April of this year (almost all arcade shooters). It was on the DC originally though, then got ported to the GC.
