I played the beta a bit.
The 3 character mechanic is a nice idea and works okay. The only problem is that with 3 characters there were 3 times the amount of people killing stuff which made it feel so overcrowded.
This is one of those games that would benefit from a Guild Wars-esqe Instanced Areas.
Other than that it felt like a competent game, but not very compelling to play.

I've seen screenshots of this. It looks like a promising game with gorgeous graphics. And it looks like its set in a historical period.

Been playing the game for a bit finally. You move around by clicking with the mouse where you want to go. Would have preferred using the arrow buttons to move, but no biggie. My laptop's not made for gaming, so I get a lot of slow downs, but other than that I'm liking the game. Unfortunately for character creation, all you can really do is give them a name and choose a starting outfit. Wasn't able to change the faces unless I picked a different class for them. Also it took me a while to figure out how to equip weapons. :D
And now, some pictures.

Damn, that does look pretty, like FFXII pretty, probably too pretty for my machine. But I'm not partial to the setting. And the idea of controlling 3 people at a time does sound crouded like Marcman said.
And I can see people using the same group of people at high levels, because they work better than others, and then the game gets boring because everyone's the same.

So is it just a click on things/spells until they die, or is there more to the gameplay?

When you get into a fight, it's all automatic like WoW and FFXI, but you can still click on skills like other online RPGs. My only problem right now is that I dunno if there's a way to prevent my characters from charging head first into every enemy that's near by. I could be standing around doing nothing, and all 3 of my characters will be picking fights without me. :lol
When you die, there's a timer bar that begins to fill, which revives that fallen character. Haven't paid attention if it takes exp away though, i'll have to look.
And any items that drop, will be marked with your character's family name, so that only you can pick it up by clicking on it. But I have noticed some items that weren't mine had no name, so I assume they become available for anyone if the person who got the drop doesn't want it. Most items that drop so far recover your party's HP so I think there's no real use for healing spells or items early on.

Yeah, the items have a timer on them, so if the original family doesn't grab them they will be up for grabs after awhile.
And Crunk, you can actually set your team to Auto-attack. So you can park yourself somewhere, and leave the room and the game will play itself for you.
You cant get any items if you do this though.
This was my main problem though: everybody was doing that and auto-farming the mobs.

Im looking for an MMO where you actually play the game an jump out of the way of things, and stuff. I dont want to point and click, and have my guy and a monster stand side by side and exchange blows until one of use dies. Bleh.
Oh monster hunter, where art thou?

The art looks great, but the gameplay seems back to the Everquest droll.

Honestly Crunk, i think City of Heroes/Villains fits that description pretty well.
EVERY single attack you make in the game requires you to push a button, there is no "auto attack" like WoW or FFXI.
You get a new power every 2 levels, some are attack, some can be defensive, and you actually have to pay attention to your character, cause if you walk away in the middle of a battle...you will die.
And there have been alot of upgrades since the last time Pavvie's played (about a year ago), we have seen 2 new issues (major game updates), and issue 10 is on its way within the next month or so (already in closed beta testing, which i am participating in).
personally i tried sword of the new world, and i couldnt handle the super auto battle, and the god awful engrish.

I hate COH. I got a free trial with every Guild Wars. I've wasted 2 of them already just trying to get the stupid game to work. Every time I downloaded all the files there is a stupid sound/texture/useless file that is corrupt and it crashes the game.
I wasted 24 hours trying to at least get past the tutorial zone.

Thats unusual, i've not seen people have too many issues with the game as long as they meet the minimum system requirements.
When the game crashes, do you let it do the full file scan that the launcher runs? it will usually fix any file problem or incompatibility issue.
City of Heroes is the one MMORPG that i have played for more than 2 years, and my account has not had a break since i started playing again back in December 2005.

Let me see if i have any trial codes for ya. Not sure how you would actually download the game though, but if you can find a way to download the game, i'll get you a code to create an account.

Buy the Good vs Evil edition if you buy it, you should be able to get it for $20 now. When you register the game(which you do when you set up an account and everything), and install it, you should automatically be able to log into heroes and villains, they are basically the same game except for different areas, class types, and, well, lots of things. You should have 12 character slots available to use for any combination of heroes or villains on whichever server you choose (I mostly play on virtue, but have characters on almost every server). Its pretty easy and intuitive.
