Umm, yeah, haven't you ever had a intimate conversation with a female?
Anyways yeah, length is always good in a game, but as long as you keep it entertaining the whole way through, you don't want to make it any longer than anyone wants to play.
I don't think it really matters how long a game is, just don't make it so long that it becomes dreary and boring as the player does one repetitive thing over and over.
Generally, shorter games, 1-2 hours are probably going to be better appreciated, but if you need to make the game 10 hours long to tell your story go right ahead. Don't feel pressure to make the game particularly long or short, though.
Yeah, make your game as long as you need to, but don't put in a bunch of uninteresting fluff just to make the game longer.
"What if like...there was an exact copy of you somewhere, except they're the opposite gender, like you guys could literally have a freaky friday moment and nothing would change. Imagine the best friendship that could be found there."
It really depends. You'll generally want a 1-3 hour game, because any longer and people will start wanting a real game...OR 10+ hours if you're aiming for an epic. The in-between is kinda a gray zone, unless you can really keep it exciting the whole way through.
It's not only length you have to keep in mind, i's replayability. You could make a game 30 minutes long, but if it's really fun or there's a lot to do, than it could be just as good as a 5-hour game.
The other point is that an RPG puts you in the life of a character. What does that mean to you? Well, imagine a game set inside a castle - that's it. Just a castle. You have no world map, you have no real exploration - you deal with the day to day plots of running a kingdom or advising the king as to what decisions he should make. As you do that, events run that change the situation inside of the castle, making it dynamic and dangerous for you. That sort of plot could run for months, RL time, as the game runs through all the event branches and plots!
Granted, I need to figure out a way to make RPGM3 castles and towns and dungeons larger for that to effectively work, but it'd be one heck of a fun game, wouldn't you say?
