Japanese hardware sale numbers for last week

    from kotaku.com

The latest Media Create Japanese hardware sales figures are in, for the week ending June 3. Did the PS3 continue its march towards 5-digit sales figures, and claw back some of that widely-publicised 5:1 deficit it faces against the Wii?

    No.

The PS3 slipped to 8,998 sales compared to the Wii's 69,748. That's not a 5:1 ratio in favour of the Wii. It's pushing 8:1.

    DSL: 123,140
    Wii: 69,748
    PSP: 26,358
    PS2: 11,814
    PS3: 8,998
    Xbox360: 2,219
    GBM: 310
    GBASP: 247
    GC: 226
    DS: 71
    GBA: 16
you really have to feel sorry for sony and microsoft.

I'm sure the hype will wear off soon enough for PS3 and 360 to catch up.

      So adding up that is:

      193,758 = Nintendo
      47,170 = Sony
      2,219 = Microsoft

A price estimate of these figures ((using the US Dollar)):

      17,437,000.00 = Wii ((flat price))
      5,398,800.00 = Ps3 ((if all systems were 60GB versions))
      887,600.00 = Xbox ((Pro editions))

Just random number crunching, but even so it's a helluva lotta difference.

Oh man, I'm so shocked. The wii wasn't selling at all there and the 360 and ps3 were dominating so long, I really wonder how such an upset happened.

Man the Japanese really hate Xbox with a passion. I know it will be the second next gen system I pick up, and really only because it's more expensive, since at the moment it has a lot more I'm interested in.

I feel sorry for Sony and Microsoft because they actually have third parties developing actual games for their systems, meanwhile Nintendo's riding a wave of success with casual minigame collections. SUDA51 put it best by saying that the developers for the Wii right now are laying the groundwork for unoriginality and boring games on the Wii.

I don't feel sorry for the X-Box, because their lack of success in Japan is offset by success in the U.S. and elsewhere, whereas the PS3 is getting a severe beatdown worldwide.

I do agree that there have been way too many mini-game themed titles for the Wii lately. While I find them a lot of fun, I really wish they'd churn out some games other than mini-game compilations.

Well, at least Corruption, Brawl, and Galaxy will mark some degree of change. They look so promising!

As for the PS3 and 360, don't worry--they're getting a lot of great games too, so they'll have the means to climb the charts. I mean, I still want to get the PS3 and 360, you know!

Re: Japanese hardware sale numbers for last week

Yeah, the Wii is flying out in front... a few games are really fun, but Brawl, Galaxy and such are going to have to be great, or the system will be little more than a novelty in the long run. I do hope they nail those games though... Nintendo's always led the way for other developers in showing how to make a great game using its system's idiosyncracies.

More shocking to me is that the Ps2 is still selling better than the Ps3. Who the heck is buying it now, seven or eight years after it came out, and when a newer system (even if it might take one more year to get it down to a cheap price) can play its games? To be fair, I'll admit buying the PSOne right after the PS2 came out, but that was on a silly whim.

Great games dont decide a system's success. Look at the Dreamcast. the PS2's lineup was absolute garbage, while the DC's library was filled with some of the best games ever made when the DC died.

The Wii is pretty much a wasteland right now aside from capcom and nintendo's own offerings. no one else seems to want to make decent games for the system.

Third parties better step up (looking at YOU, Ubisoft) and start delivering good games rather than quick cash-ins, or they'll end up killing this great system before it really gets a chance to shine.

The only thing is that it hasn't even been a year since the system been released.

How many great games did we get for 360 its first year? 1-3? It's only now that we are getting great games for system.

well, it's doing better game-wise than the PS3 is in the same amount of time, so its not THAT bad.

I wish all launches could be like the dreamcast's.

I think a lot of devs are waiting for other games to pave the way for certain genres. Nobody's going to design a fighting game (for instance) for Wii until somebody proves it can be successful. MK Armageddon isn't going to do that and it probably won't happen until SSBB. Ubisoft made everybody gunshy by pushing out those crappy games that made it seem like everything other than minigame fests doesn't work on Wii. I think it'll take a little longer than usual for devs to put "real" games on Wii and it'll never have as many as 360 and PS3.
