Easy question for me. The music that still stands out to me and stands the test of time is FFVI. From the hauntingly peaceful sounds of the Phantom Forest, the foreboding of the Floating Continent to the desperate urgency of it's escape, none other soundtrack in the series can top it.

Aria Di Mezzo Carattere. We're talking FF6, here. The game just screams "full orchestra needed", especially at the opera and the ending theme. It's also the only FF so far that had a soundtrack so good that I absolutely had to have it on CD. I feel sorry for anybody whose experience with the game is only the PS1 or GBA versions.

It was a really tough call for me. Though Tactics has arguably the very best soundtrack in the series, my preference lies with FFVI.

FFVII, VIII, X and XII were also fighting for my attention.

Ugh I hate these FF polls, I can never decide. :/ However I'm going to have to say FF VI only because the music in that one does indeed hold a special place in my heart.

Final Fantasy 9, particularly due to the ending song, "Memories of Life." Awesome tune.

I'll say. Blue Fields was a pretty throwaway song in the game. But orchestrated it's filled with nuance and depth and beauty.

Also, the ending. The long depressing, wierd strings that sundenly rise up into "Eyes on Me." And then that translation into the Final Fantasy main theme. GOSH.

FFVIII definitely had the biggest epic feel of the games. And, hey, am I the only guy who liked Blue Fields as is?
