    Gargoyle's Quest (Game Boy)

I can't help it. Ebay just has too much that I want, so I decided to get this game. I had played Gargoyle's Quest 2 for the NES (but Ixzion has since sold it), believing it to be the sequel to this game, but it's actually the opposite. Also, the front of the game cartridge is a big fat lie. Firebrand isn't green, and he damn sure doesn't wear that corny cloth gear. A good smiting to the artist that drew this!

*ahem* Now onward with the gameplay. It's kind of a turnoff because the text moves really slowly, and Firebrand also moves slow, as compared to the more fast-paced GQ2. However, the gameplay is very challenging. Firebrand is at a real disadvantage because his jumping and flying ability are ameteur, and you can only get hit once without dying. Staying alive was a real task, I must tell you, but I got through the game only two days after getting it in the mail.

One thing I didn't like while I was playing the game was that as I was walking to my next destination, I would get into this random, stupid battles, where they'd be over in mere seconds, just to get some vials, which are pretty useless, in my opinion. The password system isn't all that bad (you just have to put in 8 letters and numbers), and that really helped me from starting from scratch whenever I had a pizza delivery.

Overall, it's a good game for the old school Nintendo fan.

How did Gargoyle's Quest 2 come before Gargoyle's Quest?

Bonanza, the two of us share this one fact in common--we like collecting old games. I'm 28 years old and grew up playing these games.

As for this little gem, I have only played the NES version and its follow-up Demon's Crest, which was an awesome game. It was one of those few titles back in the day where you played an antagonist--an anti-hero, if you will. Though it's always nice to play a hero, there's nothing wrong with playing a monster.

Gargoyle's Quest came out in 1990, and GQ2 in 1992.

However, GQ2 takes place BEFORE GQ, which I just discovered recently.

        EDIT: Misty, you freaking rock.
