This is why I force myself to play games I hate.

I absolutely hated Skies of Arcadia. At first I thought it was kind of charming and it showed some promise. Then around the 1st and 2nd temples I literally had to stop myself from playing because I was falling asleep. It was just so boring. And the random encounters. UGH.

I just crossed the Dark Rift and am at that Japanese Town, and I have to say it's a great RPG and while it shows it's age it has stood the test of time. The storytelling and characters are really what make the game.

I wish I could say the same for other games. I'm looking at you Lunar Knights. 14 hours of crap.

One of these days I'll force myself to actually play MGS3, which frustrates me to no end. I'm sure I'll enjoy it....eventually.

Seriously, Mora claims that 2 was annoying? 2 was fun and easy, 3 is the *****-queen of the gaming world.

With me, if there's a game that I dislike, I just don't play it anymore.

Case in point--Double Dragon III for the NES. It wasn't a bad game. Just frustratingly difficult. I only passed the first level once and that was it. I kept getting knocked around, and the clunky controllers certainly didn't help matters.

          I loved number 2.

Looking back playing MGS2 was one of my most memorable gaming experiences. I ran through it on a marathon play through because I only rented and wanted to beat it before I had to take it back. I didn't understand half of it by the end of the game but I didn't really care. Which is why I probably like it so much, because you all were too busy "WTF so this was all a VR Training I don't get to play as Snake WTF" and I just went with it.

              Double Dragon III was garbage.

"But how dare you insult the Double Dragon games!?"

You only had one life. One. You died and it was game over, no continues, you're screwed. But wait, you could get other characters. So if Billy died you could play as the fat business man who sucked balls.

Terrible game. Just admit it Misty!

There are games that I want to love to death, but I can barely force myself to keep playing them. DQ8 and FFXII are two of them.

And if a game just sucks to me, meaning there's one or more elements in there that constantly grate on my nerves, I don't give it a second chance anymore. Legend of Dragoon was a 30 hour **** fest of suck, ending in a wam bam Hollywood B-rate horror movie CG thing. I wish I could show it to you.

                Oh wait, I can.

Who the hell names their kid "Dart" anyway?

Edit: Oh and the final boss was crap. Every move he did didn't seem godly at all, or it was something totally overdone for something so simple.

Yeah, too bad you couldn't change it like you could in many other RPGs. But I thought Legend of Dragoon was a pretty good game considering the 100 member development team behind it. I'm surprised a sequel wasn't made.

All right it was inherently bad...... But it was freakin' Double Dragon! I couldn't help it!

I didn't get far enough to even use any of the selectable characters.....

The descripition on the back brags that the development was 3 years in the making, and I read elsewhere that it aimed to rival Final Fantasy in scope. So I bought it.

The only part I liked about it were the cutscenes that started in mid-battle, and the timing attack stuff. But overall, very bland game to me.

I remember when I sold that game to GameStop the employee looked at me, and said.

Guy - "Legend of Dragoon. That was a good game. Did you just beat it?"

"No I got somewhere on the 4th disc and got sick of it."

Guy - "Really? This is one of my favorite games"

                      "......"

Guy - "You sure you wanna sell it? If you were on the fourth disc you're pretty close to the end. It's got a good ending."

"No thanks just give me the store credit."

I really wanted to go on a rant about how terrible the game was, how cliche, overdone, and terribly bland it was. But who wants to listen to a kid say that. After all, it was one of his favorite games.

In response to your other question Den. Who the hell names their kid Cloud, Zidane, or Tidus for that matter?

Re: This is why I force myself to play games I hate.

stella deus was like this for me, the most recent game to do this to me. i was playing it hardcore before it dawned on me that the fusioning was tedious and on the point of total insanity (in work and amount it cost). the plot was stale, character development non existant and the only source of leveling up was a horribly done 100 level dongeon with nearly no map changes and the same bloody enimies for the entire thing! the leveling system needed a face lift as well. i read a review on it and found that it basicly said the game was a flaming pile of crap.

so much potential yet fell far short of the mark. i enjoyed it a little bit but not enough to put much more time into finishing it.

i acualy found legend of dragoon to be not to bad. whatever they paid the music specialist, it was too much and the cash better spent elsewhere. i bought it new when it came out with all the hype and bravados. the plot was alright, i liked the battle combo move thingies where ya had to push the button to match it up. i found leveling to be completely lame, money soooooooooooooooooo hard to get it was apaling. you never had money, or it took absolutely forever to get enough to buy anything of value. by the end of the game youd be lucky to find enough cash to buy those legendy nicknacks. stardusts collecting was prety interesting and having stuff hidden everywhere was a nice plus for a curious person like me. though it had alot of potential, it fell short but not nearly far as some other games out there.

some games are better left as coasters or frizebies, cause they arnt worth a mention beyound that.

Thank you Ωbright for the sig fix!

Some games I've played because I supported what they're TRYING to do, even if they're not very great. Like Wild Arms 3, Riviera, and Valkyrie Profile 2. Or, you know, ANY RPG.

And I don't think Lunar Knights is bad. It reminds me of Illusion of Gaia. Only with more holes to fall into.

So I guess no one ever played Star Ocean:TTEOT. Pretty sure it doesn't get any worse than naming your main charac... kid Fayt. Seriously. Not a bad game, but man hearing the main characters name in every dialog made me want to hit someone with the brick of subtlety they hit me with. As for Tidus it is a last name supposedly (Christopher Titus [ed: sp] anyone?), and Zidane could easily be a Japanese kids name, Cloud however is rather dumb, not quite as bad as Squall though (also liked that game, but that name is certainly up there on the bad main characters names list).

I guess I usually quit games I just can't stand as well. I know I'm still maybe halfway through Metroid Prime, because I think it's a terribly done 1st person platformer (and also firmly believe platformers should be 3rd person always), plus I would rather play one of the 2D Metoids, those were fun. Personally I don't see what's so great about the Primes.

Of course I did play through Evolution worlds, with names like Mag Launcher, Linear Cannon and Pepper Box it's got to be good, m i rite . But at least it had a somewhat interesting battle system.

Most RPGs made today rehash the same old fantasy crap. That's why I quit playing them and exactly why I'm making my own. At least there's Fallout 3 and Persona 3 to look forward to.
