Why is Dirge of Cerberus so reviled?

I rented the game from Gamefly, and played it for about 3 or 4 hours the other day and i honestly DONT KNOW why people seem to think it sucks. Its got a pretty good story so far, the graphics arent too bad, and the gameplay is solid.

Sometimes aiming is cumbersome, and the AI isnt the best, but all around i find the game to be alot more fun than most people make it out to be.

I'd probably give it an 8.4 out of 10, but it is still a solid game, and the weapon customization is pretty cool. If you havent played it, or didnt want to try it because you heard bad things about it, i recommend giving it a rent anyway. You might be pleasantly surprised.

I have not had the chance to try it myself, and I have heard the dismal reviews on it. It's not that I didn't want to try it because of the word-of-mouth-I just haven't had time. But yeah, I want to at least give this game a shot and form my own opinion on it. It's a different kind of game set in the FFVII universe, and Vincent is cool. (Though Dante has my heart though.)

Just because reviews say a game is a piece of **** doesn't mean you have to always believe them. The point is if you find a game that looks interesting, go for your instinct. If you like the game, great. If not, you can always invest in something else. You can't always let other people determine your decisions in game buying.

From what I understand the main problems were control and camera issues, crappy auto-aiming, and the overabundance of cutscenes (to the point that they happen in the middle of boss fights).

I personally think the gameplay is terrible and boring.

and it has gackt. While I like some of his music, he doesnt belong in a game.

I've never played it, but intend to pick it up somtime and try it out, although Valk has a point, the whole Gackt thing is a major turn-off, for me, at least.

Solid gameplay? Perhaps you found the one version of the game that doesn't suck. I remember the gameplay as clumsy, repetitive, having an annoying use of camera, and being a generic shooter/DMC clone (minus the fun.) But hey, if you like it that's all that really matters.... I guess.

I would have bought it for the multiplayer mode (creating your own character, and getting updates). But since it required the PS2's hard drive, they removed it from the U.S. version. So meh.

The illogical answer is because every wanted a remade VII and instead they got Vincent's Angsty Adventures.

And from what I hear the American version was retouched to fix a lot of the things that people complained about with the Japanese version, so a lot of it's rep is based on a game that you're not playing.

I see it all the time at Best Buy but I always pass it up. Always a bridesmaid Vincent, always a bridesmaid.

Look at the reviews for Steambot Chronicles. It`s one of my all-time favorite games and most reviewers give it around a 7.

Yup, i love that one too.

Oh, and about the gameplay, it isnt bad at all, you just have to get used to the 3rd person aiming, just like in most other 3rd person shooter games, they all have a learning curve.

I actually liked the controls AFTER about 20 minutes of customization, but the real downer for me was the stealth missions. I hate stealth games, and I would hardly call the stealth missions developed. You had the option of moving, jumping, or throwing useless punches. Pretty lame.

I'm not too much of a fan of it, as someone said "Vincent's angsty adventures" , which is about true. The first big buz over it was that it had Advent Childrens graphics (per say) and it was still in the Final Fantasy VII theme.

I'm not too sure who said the controlls sucked untill you spent 20 min tweaking them, and then whoever complained about the stealth missions, but I'm jelious that you got to say it before I could.

I mean cat seith is an ok charactor in VII but playing him in Durge as a helpless ragdoll isn't my idea of fun. I'd rather fall down a fifty foot flight of stairs before playing with a puppet cat in that game who couldn't do anything.

I will say the weapon customization was the best part of the game, but with the limited item space and the heavily flawed camera system and lets not forget the lackluster controlls, it kind of makes the game flush itself down the toilet.

I'm not hating on Vencent or VII, mind you I'm a huge fan of VII, but if they wanted to make a game worthy of it they would have spent more time on it and adjusted its flaws, but that wasn't the case here, it was strictly to cash in on the Advent Children craze. Well thats my .02$ there.

I had my FFVII fix with Advent Children. Anything after that movie is too much.

I mean, that movie practically wrote the book on overdoing it.
