    Guy with super-tuberculosis quarantined

    http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070530/...osis_infection

Health officials said that the man had been advised not to fly and that he knew he could expose others when he boarded the jets from Atlanta to Paris, and later from Prague to Montreal.
Do you think it would be fair to prosecute people with deadly and/or highly contagious diseases when they knowingly expose others to it? If I ended up catching some strain of super-TB (as was this guy's case), SARS, or something of the like and found out that one particular person was responsible for it, I'd want to sue him or at least have him reprimanded...somehow.

It surprises me that this man is angry to be under quarantine and armed guard. After all, he brought it upon himself: after deliberately exposing people to TB, he refuses to turn himself in while in Italy and sneaks back into the United States.

Gross. The guy knew he was sick, and not just with some run-of-the-mill cold. He could have at least worn a face mask to protect others from his illness.
In the beginning the universe was created. This made a lot of people very angry and is widely considered as a bad move.

Yeah, I heard about this. With all these nasty diseases going around, I'm glad they're taking action.

We don't need another scare like SARS or the Bird Flu. (And the Bird Flu is still a major concern at this point.)

People don't take things they can't see seriously. They think: "OH, A BACTERIA! LIKE SOMETHING THAT SMALL COULD EVER HURT A BIG PERSON LIKE ME!" And then they wipe out a civilization.

I'm scared! I don't want to die of TB.

They do the same thing with AIDs victims. They go around infecting others and not telling their partner that they have the disease.

Man, what an ASSHOLE. I'd like to punch that guy in the throat.

Er. I'd like to hit that guy with a long stick.

I think you actually can sue somebody for purposely exposing you to a disease. I've heard of people suing a person who gave them AIDS but there's not a set standard so it's a toss-up whether you'll win or the case will get thrown out. Or I could be completely mistaken. Who knows?

I dunno, locking people up cus they're sick sets a bad precedent. With all the bull**** flying around about abuses of civil liberties I could easily see this turned into people getting locked up for dissent and the government saying they have some bug and it's for the good of the public. The if they die, hey, they were sick.

Kind of a stretch, but still. With bushes Hitleresque emergency superpower act anythings possible.
