Im tired of japan being the only country to make good 2D movies...

Seriously, are there all kinds of trippy imaginative, beautifuly animated movies out there from other countries that are new, and I just dont know about them?

It seems like japan is the only country into this. America is into the whole 3D crapfest rut right now wich I hope they get out of. So many shows are trying to be all edgy and anime influenced, and it sickens me. Wheres the style? It doesnt have to be anime to be awsome.

    Like check this out.

It looks freaking amazing. The things that can be done with just drawing frame after frame amazes me everytime I think about it.

I guess its because its all about money though. If it doesnt sell they dont wanna risk losing money. But lifes all about taking chances and being creative. An example would be Gainax, a japanese animation studio/company. They make some of the most wacky, out there, and well animated shows you can find. They've almost gone bankrupt a few times. But alot of their stuff isnt mainstream. Its all stuff thats gained HUGE followings after it should have been popular. They were started by just a few guys who loved animation.

Plus most people just assume cartoons are for kids. More animated movies need to get made that are aimed at older audiences.

I swear if I ever get the money, Ill help make my dream movie. Itll all be 2D. Maybe even oldschool cell style. Ive got ideas brewing that are so sad and emotional , and so epic and awsome that if I could make them as well animated as they are in my head It'd make me shed man tears.

Hell it might even get to the point where I make the whole damn thing myself. Ive already been searching around for programs that link jpegs together so I can make all the frames in photoshop.

If you got any, link us up with some awsome animation on youtube or something!

Kids Story from the Animatrix still amazes me everytime I see it.

No, life's all about gettin' that cash money. And then dying.

There's this art/film paper that gets sent to my work that's been pimping Paprika, which looks pretty good... I'm tired of Japan being the only country making beautiful 2d movies, but at least someone's doing it.

It's great to watch, but too bad the character Kid himself is lame, as shown in Reloaded and Revolution.

But I do wish more animated films would be made over here that was a little more mature. Even CG movies are all the same, as it's always a bunch of cartoony animals or really goofy humans. Even though Final Fantasy The Spirits Within sucked, the CG quality was the best thing i've seen in years.

Mature animated films here aren't going to make money.

That's really not the studios fault. Why should they finance a movie if it's not going to get them a profit? Street Cred?

If there's so many great artists I guess they can finance the movie themselves.

A lot of the CG rendered movies in America these days have been themed on penguins and animals. It's fine, of course, since I like those movies. I just wish they would make more CG movies about something other than animals every now and then. (Like the Incredibles and Toy Story. )

I enjoy Japanese anime very much because it's visually beautiful to look at. And plus, the storytelling isn't bad either. It's why I appreciate stuff like Escaflowne. Just awesome animation all around.

I can't say I would go to a theatre to see a 2d movie. Unless it was a classic like Transformers or somthing.

It's rare that I go to the movies at all though.

Red Dragon's on to something. Audiences just don't give a **** anymore.

                    <Ricky Ricardo voice> Sausiiiie.

How about free popcorn and a large drink? That always gets them coming. Throw in a box of Raisinets and Goobers (they don't make those anymore, do they?) to really sweeten the pot.

I'm still paying $10 for tickets. And that doesn't include the popcorn and drink.

Well it's only $5.50 for matinee for me, and we have a dollar theater (well I think it's $1.75 now). So once I start getting paid I'll likely be checking out more movies, though I usually catch around 5 to 10 a year in the theater. Besides playing video games at someones house it's one of the few other things me and may friends typically do together.

As for the deal I think I would rather have the sex personally, but that's because I don't like popcorn, and don't really drink sodas anymore. So I think maybe you're onto something there Mr Sausages, though it depends on who it's with, most of the attendants at my movie theater I wouldn't care for.

Oh right the topic at hand, yeah I do find it somewhat sad that 2D has gone the way of the wayside here. I do enjoy a good anime, though I think incorporating decent CG in with 2D works out pretty well. Just seems it costs too much to make a Cg movie these days, so they have to target the largest audience possible unfortunately, which is getting the PG or G rating (though really nothing gets the G rating anymore, since mild peril is enough to get a PG these days). But yes I am tired of nothing but animated penguins and other animals, but my family eats that stuff up , so looks like the marketing departments are spot on.

I generally don't like most anime I've seen, unless it's Miyazaki.

So really I'm screwed watching old Don Bluth films and stuff for my fix.

Overall, I prefer animation like Snow-bo.

REALLY THOUGH I'M NOT THAT INTO ANIMATION SO WHAT THE HELL DO I KNOW?

Buy Mike Judge's and Don Hertzfeldt's Animation Show Volume One on DVD if you want to see interesting non-Japanese animation.

But don't knock the Japanese stuff, either. |:3

                          Also: Pyrats lol

I'm not much into anime either. I dislike a lot of the conventions of the genre .

I really enjoy anime. Defintally one of my favorite things to watch.

I used to love every single type of anime, but the "children" oriented anime has become more Americanized, a.k.a. crappy.

Mar comes to mind. At first it seemed like a magical fairy tale trip with a young boy. But it has quickly turned into a Japanese obessed silver jewelry show.

But with Ghost in the Shell, Boogiepop, Parnomoral Agent, Case Closed, ect. I know I won't lose interest.

American cartoons are now all about cheap animation with college based humor it seems. Or toy cash in shows.
