    Direct Effects and VFX

I was trying to create a cure item for my game, Henry's Big Adventure. Unfortuntely it took me 3 hours to do so, which doesn't include the time I some how turned the cure item into a deadly weapon and wiped out my main character. The really big problem is I have no idea how I got it to work in the first place.

Could someone please explain this to a totally confused person? I know there has to be an easier way to do this, then I way I did it.

Find a similar item in the pre set data.

    Copy, Paste, and Modify!

    That's the easy way.

There are so many thingies involved with direct effects that this is the way to go and slowly learn by modifying (change item name, find effect script and change VFX, sounds, etc).

    Have Fun!

    Peace.

        Not really...

Once you find the right scripts (remember that when perusing the menus in the direct effects area that pressing triangle in a sub menu will take you to the shown event or script) editing them is quick, easy and structured. Very little trial and error, just logical deduction!

Yeah, I found that out when I played with it a little further.

Just wanted to let you know Rodak, that your guide on VFX was a great help.

I was wondering if you could help me with another problem I have. When I enter or exit a map the characters and the camera don't face the correct direction. Some buildings when I exit have the characters facing the building or when I enter a building they are facing sidways.

How do I fix that? I know in one of your explaination on how to put a weapon on a character something about enter map script. Is that where I would go to correct the problem?

I love this game but it can be very annoying sometimes.

Don't get too discouraged with the complexity.

I think (and I've been away from this for a while) that the party faces the same direction they were last facing when warping.

So you could either just rotate the party before they warp (in every warp script!) or use enter map scripts for that (but they override other things like music and more! So if you use them, prepare for More Complexity!).

I just dusted off my RPGM2 and tested it to be sure it works...

I plan on making Garbage this weekend and will be able to check on this if you have not resolved it by then.

And Thanks! That guide is incomplete, and I had big plans for flash content, but tripod doesn't allow swf files...

I need to get my stuff together and take somebody up on their offer to host the guide on a Proper site!

            But I digress...

Another way to fix it would be to make all warp points align as you wish by rotating whole buildings or even whole towns, and such!

            Good Luck with it.

            Peace.

Thanks, I'll have to try those suggestions.

I don't remember every enjoying a video game so much.
