    JOB GET!

So a couple of days ago I got an offer for a job after interviewing for about a month. Once I fill out the paper work and send it in this Thursday I will officially be a computer consultant for a pretty large global firm (Solution Developer is the official title, and Avanade is the company for those interested). Man it'll be nice to have money, and insane benefits, and free travel if for business.

Needless to say I'm pretty damn happy about where my life is going, and in a few months will start getting me some next gen gaming systems finally (got to get rid of some debt first), and a new computer.

Also I'll be in Dallas for the week of July 9th, and in Seattle for 3 weeks a week after that. Hopefully I'll be traveling for my first assignment, since that would mean I wouldn't have to spend any money, since pretty much all necessities are paid for when on the road. But it's about 50/50 whether I get a job near me or not.

So yeah, whee. Also to anyone looking networking certainly is the way to go, as I used to blow it off as crap, but part of me getting this job was a referral from someone I worked on a couple of projects with in college, and a little help from another person in that project who was also my roommate for a year who works there. Not that I'm not qualified, just don't have any experience. Talking to people good .

As for networking, you're dead on, TTC. I've read estimates that as much as 70% of positions are filled without ever being advertised. So if you're relying on ads, you've already lost out on a huge section of the job market.
So you're a fish out of water...
      Keep swimming.
      What else can you do?

Much, much more than that. But yes that is one of the many. It's certainly a sweet gig (much more than the Army like that one recruiter tried to tell us). I'll be taking advantage of that as I haven't been to the dentist in probably a few years, though I keep pretty good care of my teeth. Haven't been to a doctor in like 5 years, but then again I'm in pretty good health, and haven't been sick except for a minor stomach virus and one or two colds.

          Yaaaay! Congratulations!

Let's see.......you're an expert on computers.

          You're a poet.

You're an RPG Maker 2 brainiac. (Rodak, too!)

          You're a musician.

          You're a Pavilion Moderator.

And now you're a computer consultant.

You totally live up to the name "truecoolness", yeah?

            Congrats, truecoolness!

I was trying to get into the tech field, but I'm thinking about doing something else now. I don't get a rush from programming computers, and the thought of always having to be on call when something breaks down is unappealing to me.

I'm thinking about finance or nutrition.

Got my Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and am now looking for employment involving renewable energy. I can expect to make between $1,000 and $1,400 a week starting out.

Well only slightly better than what I am, if you're talking gross. If I get any overtime, which I likely will I'll be right up there in that range.

Cool man. Once I find one that meets my criteria, I'll have that car finished in like 3 months.

Maybe then you can work on making me one . Though I probably won't have that much saved up for a year or so. Though when I get a new car it will likely be a Prius, since that's close enough to an electric, or at least closest you'll get from a major car dealer.

                        Re: JOB GET!

Forget the Prius, and look for a used diesel car of sorts and run it on waste vegetable oil(< $4,000 or so with nearly free fuel after that). It takes about 12 barrels of oil to build a new car, and the Prius still requires gasoline for its fuel.

If you do get a Prius, look into making it a plug-in hybrid, at the least. But that will set you back some coin, given hand-made batteries and management system...

For the price of a new Prius minus $5,000 or so, you could build a battery electric pickup truck that gets 200 miles range on golf cart batteries. I know how to do it:

Word of warning. Local, city, and state governments have been going after people for running their cars on electricity, vegetable oil, or other alternative fuels and have been trying to charge them with felony tax evasion. Nevermind the fact that most of the road wear and taxes required to fund them are caused by huge semi trucks. A 50,000 pound tractor trailer will cause ~7,000 times the road wear of a passenger car, but unlike us motorists, these companies get subsidies and don't have to pay much of anything!
