The Awesome Trio. I'm sure some of you know who these guys are. Those who don't, they're a goofy trio of monsters you encounter early into [game which shall not be mentioned by name] that challenges you to a series of mini-games. There have been people that didn't like them, yet I've been keeping them up until now for reasons not much better than "I wanted a recurring enemy not unlike Croco or Ultros or Solt and Peppa" and "I don't want their challenges to go to waste". Yet lately I've been wondering if it's really wise to keep them in the game as they are now.
Reason for this is a very work-in-progress scene I sorta rushed through that takes place on Mt. Shela after the end of the demo. Two of the lead characters humorously cross a gap on a rope using an "are you sure this is safe" gag, with the rope breaking and them falling through the roof into the cave, where the comic relief main character comes in and rescues them using more humor. And I look at this and wonder if it's too stark a contrast compared to the otherwise serious story. I mean, sure, various serious RPGs have humorous points here and there to help keep the game from becoming too stressful, but I wonder if I'm taking it too far. Especially with that comic-relief character. Looking at her, I can't help but worry that she's gonna be nothing more but another Quina Quen, except without the one-track mind for food or speech impairment. Offhand, the only reason I can think of that I have her joining along is because she's a comic-relief character, and that just bothers me.
So yeah, more developer angst on my end. But at least I've made a decision on what to do about platform. Even if I do have to put subquests on a separate memory card, at least it's possible to make what I want on RPGM1. And really, I don't want to bother with all that extra work it'd take if I moved it to RMXP.
