What current political issue has you worried and why?

I want this to be a serious discussion folks. This is along the same rules as the Religion topic.

I myself am worried over our military spending at the moment which in turn makes me a little worried about our deficit spending.

I'll explain why in a bit.

Erosion of civil liberties, i.e. all attempts to legally deprive people of habeus corpus, not to mention any invasion upon a person's right to privacy.

-- Illegalizing abortions: Although I've my own moral qualms against abortion, I feel that the government has no right to determine the legality of what someone chooses to do with their body. Besides, if they're so concerned about the welfare of the unborn, they'd have to make drinking, smoking, and taking drugs (legal or otherwise) while pregnant illegal as well, and the only way to enforce such a thing is to force people to tell whether or not they're pregnant. To me, it's not fair to try to enforce an anti-abortion law while not stopping people who fill their bodies with filth during pregnancy from producing deformed, retarded, or drug-addicted babies. I guess so long as they're not "murdered" before birth, it doesn't matter what condition they're born in. In the end, I feel they need to enforce all of the above, or none at all; since the former would be too great of breach of privacy, then there's no place for laws such as these.

I've more, but I'm sleepy at the moment; this was the first one that came to mind.
In the beginning the universe was created. This made a lot of people very angry and is widely considered as a bad move.

I'm with Patryn. With the Patriot Act, it seems we're going backwards.

            Loss of freedom of speech.

Say what you will about all these celebrities and radio DJs going psycho and spouting off obscenities and insults, but if I don't want to be afraid to speak my mind about anything.

And I DO NOT want to have to publicly apologize for it to the entire world either.

I 100% agree with you, Magus. It just seems like we have to watch out for anything we say because it will strike a chord with anyone.

My other concern: Why they haven't impeached Bush for that Homeland Security Act. Never have I felt so betrayed by a man who I thought would let me have some privacy.

                Global Warming.

And it definitely IS a political issue. It shouldn't be: it should be common sense. But many people have the wrong agenda and this is why global warming is a political issue.

It has me worried because they are warning signs but our political system (U.S.A.) is making it very difficult to pass legislation that would actively combat the problem.

I'm worried about global warming too. Also, I'm worried about having a government run by rich business men. There's a reason why we still use coal plants, cars run on oil, and cure cancer with radiation. There are alternatives.

With global warming, there seems to be a war of information. Even though the scientific community is in agreement of its existance, there are enough people out there that will say "oh yeah, well I have Documentary B that says otherwise. Everyone once believed in global cooling too!" Until the rebuttal to this point becomes common knowledge (probably around the election), we won't get over this hurdle.

I have a friend who works at an elemetery school and next year they are removing the library and turning the space into classrooms.

THE SCHOOL WONT HAVE A LIBRARY.

They've already done away with art and music, and gym is the next item up on the chopping block.

Re: What current political issue has you worried and why?

important issue i forgot about loki, i am also very discuraged with the loss of art and music programs. if i become rich that is two programs i would like to fund to keep open. it is a damn shame when school budgets are so unimportant that we would sacrifice key educational programs over allocating proper resources to them. with that kind of attitude china, india and other such fast growth education oriented societies have every right to outpass us.

i worry about our priorities, and the false political bull that our goverments spin to trick us into beleiving their version of priority. maybe if they didnt get thousands in raises every year we would have enough money to fund these programs. i wish i got that kind of raise rather then a quarter every two years.

The only thing I really fear is the impending oil wars. Check back in a few years to see how the next election goes. Then we'll know if all the crap that the Bush Administration put on us will wash out or cement its hold.

I'd also like to not spend billions of dollars on Iraq. I know the problem is with extreme radicals and 99% of the people in the middle east are just regular joes but sometime I feel that the best option is to drop a nuke and see what survives. Of course the same could be said about D.C.

Putin's a little scary with his cadre of KGB spooks, but I don't think he's got the strength of the old Soviet Union. He did manage to irradiate that spy though. That's pretty crazy when you think about it. An assasination out in the open and he basically just shrugs and goes, "Well, what you gonna do?"

In the end I think if we just delt with all our domestic issues the foreign ones get exponetially less scary.

I've been worried about politics in general since the fall of the french monarchy. And I wasn't even alive then.
