How about a forum for more serious things. Not a debate forum, though I wouldn't mind one. I mean a forum for the heavy discussion. Free Forum is for light-hearted banter, but I mean a forum for the deep ****. I wanted to make a topic today about what everyone wakes up for in the morning, but I knew very few would take it all too seriously, and those that would may not get a chance to see it as it would just be drowned out by mindless chatter. So, how about it? Pretty please, could we have a serious discussion forum?

I wouldn't mind that either, but really, how many people on the Pav would take it seriously? I know alot of the regulars here would make some use of it, but it seems the noobs like the free forum the best.

I hope the point wouldn't be to limit peoples' sense of humor... at the same time, people posting completely off-topic jokes, comments, or pictures, *without* adding anything to the discussion, really isn't appropriate in some of the darker topics (like the recent VA tech mass shooting).
I do think this is a very good idea, and I'd like to see it at the Pavilion. Not as a way to take the joy out of posting, but simply to make sure that serious discussions remain on-topic.

Exactly, you can have them in the free forum, but often at times the serious topics don't take off because when people go into the Free Forum they're not looking for serious talk. Sure they may find it, but that is not the mindset of the forum.Grow!Comment

there are a lot of questions that come with this, if we did it (I have to talk to mora about it). like, where would it go? What would the rule set be? who would moderate it? what would we call it?

I think the problem is that no matter what you call it, it would still be the debate forum. Couple that with the fact that usually any topics that deal with serious discussion always devolve into going back in time to kill Hitler.
I don't think such a forum could survive. It would take heavy moderation to keep everyone in line and I'm wouldn't give anyone that kind of headache. I think it's very naive of people to think this would work out.
That being said I say give it a shot and put Alto as mod. Let him come up with suggested rules and then staff decision.The Cyclops having only one eye, needed to seek shelter from the harsh sun. The shadow cast by the spheres gave him temporary respite.

I'd gladly moderate it and make rules. I'd monitor it constantly. I can have rules up for you by the end of the night if you'd like. It's serious discussion, but we're all intelligent enough to know when a joke is meant in detriment. Those that don't, well I will teach them if I need. Even the newbies we attract are pretty intelligent. This isn't a debate forum, this is a Socratic Seminar forum. You share your ideas on a subject, they may disagree with someone else's, but you may NOT insult another's ideas. Jokes are welcome, sarcasm is fine, but personal attacks will result in(If possible) a total ban from the Disscussion forum. You only get one warning. I would not tolerate disrespect of others ideals.Grow!Comment

Mora is the only currently active forum admin. The decision is his alone as head of forums. No one else has a say in it, not even me.
