Edward Norton IS... The Incredible Disappointment!

Well, there goes all my hopes for a decent Hulk sequel. A pedigree involving The Transporter and Fantastic Four doesn't bode well.

Edward Norton has been set by Marvel Studios to play Bruce Banner in The Incredible Hulk.

The Louis Leterrier-directed film will be distributed by Universal Pictures on June 13, 2008. The movie will shoot this summer in Toronto.

Norton takes over a role played in the Ang Lee-directed Hulk by Eric Bana. Though that film opened strongly, it didn't fare as well as other Marvel efforts, including Spider-Man, X-Men, Fantastic Four and, most recently, Ghost Rider.

Marvel Studios, which has a $525 million credit facility obtained through Merrill Lynch, made The Incredible Hulk its second film under that arrangement, and seeks to make a sequel that is less self-serious and more in line with the comic series and TV show. Leterrier directed the action-filled Transporter and its sequel, as well as Unleashed.

The new movie begins with Banner on the run, trying to avoid capture long enough to cure the condition that turns him into a misunderstood green menace.

"Edward Norton is a rare talent and one of the most versatile actors in the business," Marvel Studios production president Kevin Feige said in a statement. "His ability to transform into a particular role makes him the ideal choice to take on the character of Bruce Banner and the Hulk. Edward is perfectly suited to bring one of the most popular and important Marvel icons to the bigscreen in a new and exciting way."

The script for The Incredible Hulk was written by Zak Penn, who had a hand in crafting two "X-Men" films and Fantastic Four for Marvel.

The movie is being produced by Avi Arad, Gale Anne Hurd and Marvel's Feige. Jim Van Wyck, David Maisel, Ari Arad and Stan Lee are executive producing.

I can already tell you it won't be as good as the Hulk. I think Ang Lee did a bang-up job.

I heard Lee did a horrific job.

              Stop making Hulk movies, period.

The one thing I really liked about the other Hulk movie was how they made it look like a comic with those cuts.

I really like that, aside from that one part where Josh Lucas was hurled towards the screen. THAT just looked cheesy. Instead, what I think the real weakness with the first movie was, was that it seemed to be at odds with itself. All throughout the commentary of the movie, Ang Lee talks about not playing it like a "comic book movie" and to keep it artistic and serious, yet five minutes later, look, Hulk-dogs. It's obvious Lee didn't really respect the source or the medium, and probably got wrangled into the whole deal with promises of money and the hoity-toity psychodrama angle. Which I think was well-done, really. He explored the serious side of Hulk about as well as anyone could. But scattered among the moments that redeem the movie are real "WTF were they thinking?"-type stuff. Eric Bana's interpretation of Banner's rage as hissy fits? The melodramatic angle of his traumatic past where his mother was beaten and killed? The entire subplot of his father receiving the powers of Absorbing Man, leading to the most incomprehensible final 15 minutes of any action movie ever? I mean, really, sometimes these actors needed to be reined back, and they weren't. Still, it had a beautiful angle with Jennifer Connelly's romance with Bana. The movie should've just ended after her love tamed the savage beast. :3

The first movie was flawed, but not an unsalvagable wreck. I don't think I'll be able to say the same for this sequel.

That would be too awsome for hollywood to handle.

That would make it 500% more watchable.

What two X-Men? 1&2? cause if that was the case I wouldn't avoid it like a plague and find it on basic cable.

I love Ed Norton. This still makes no sense.
