Re: Damn Koalas
Shoot them. There's too many of them damn things. It would have been best had they not been introduced there to begin with, but eradicating them from the island would work wonders for the balance of the ecosystem there. Shoot them. The unnecessary felling of a tree, perhaps the growth of centuries, seems to me a crime little short of murder." ~ Thomas Jefferson

Re: Damn Koalas
Thing is, unlike the koalas, the environment can still sustain their numbers. BUT the consumption of resources by socio-economic status has got to change in order for this to be sustainable. Otherwise, you just wind up killing people so the rich can continue consuming their grossly unfair share of the world's resources.I also think we should start killing excess human population from certain areas of the world. The unnecessary felling of a tree, perhaps the growth of centuries, seems to me a crime little short of murder." ~ Thomas Jefferson

Re: Damn Koalas
"Feed the children. EAT THE RICH." seems more apt.
I'm not a fan of killing or culling anyone, and would be entirely against such a measure for population reduction under all circumstances, but if we become overpopulated, and killing becomes the solution to be used, I say start with those that are consuming the most resources and work on down from there, which would be the billionaires and millionaires and leading politicians and business executives on the top tier, then to the 1st world upper-middle class and foreign beaurucrats and 2nd/3rd world wealthy upper classes on the 2nd tear, then to 1st/2nd world middle class if need be on the third tier.
If the top 1% were to cut their consumption down to the levels of the top 10%(upper-middle classes), we'd see a reduction in resource consumption by over 20%. The combined net wealth of the fortune 500 is worth more than the annual incomes of the poorest half of the world's population. Something is kind of astray there...
Of course, koalas have no socio-economic stratification, nor are they assumed anywhere near as sentient as humans, AND their species aren't native to their surroundings, so killing them is not a problem, but still a shame. Shouldn'tr have been brought there to begin with. But shooting them would still be quite fun. The PETA people will be quite upset, however. Are they willing to pay to ship the koalas out?The unnecessary felling of a tree, perhaps the growth of centuries, seems to me a crime little short of murder." ~ Thomas Jefferson
