    Blue-Bottom Disc Read Errors

For the last year or so I've been getting DRE's when I put any blue-bottom discs in my PS2. This has stopped me from playing several games, particularly RPGM2. (All silver bottoms work fine.) Someone on the GameFAQs Dance Factory board told me that I can use an Action Replay Max or something like that to fix this problem--anyone know if this is true? If so, how does it fix the error (what do I need to do with it) and about how much does it cost?

    Thanks!!

Here's is a scotch tape trick that I found on a Web site one time:

Has your PS2 stopped reading blue disks?
Has the disk made "tick tick tick" & "skeeeerrrrrrrch" sounds?
Do you constantly get a disk read error message?
Well you came to the right place!

    Materials:
    Scotch tape
Knowledge of how long an inch is.
    Blue PS2 disk.

    Key:
O = the hole in the middle of the disk.
    | | = scotch tape
    ( ) = disk

    Directions:
    1. Get 2, 1 inch pieces of scotch tape.
    2. Place the two pieces PARALLEL across each side of the hole against the edges of the hole.
Make sure the scotch tape is securely on the disk.

    Like so, ( |O| )

    And voila!

Pop the blue disk into your PS2 & enjoy!

Note: the scotch tape is used to balance out the light weight blue disks. If one layer of scotch tape doesn't work add another layer until it weighs enough to work.

I am not responsible for any damage to your PS2 or PS2 disk.

So it's just a coincidence that the disc diagram spells out lol right.

Wonder if anyone has ever tried this.

Of course there were many more complicated solutions involving opening the case and realigning the laser. I believe a google search for Sony DRE will bring them up. Apparently Sony had some shoddy manufacturing, so the laser gets out of alignment.

Thank god the PS3 works like a dream...with almost every PS2 and PSOne game.

Sony learned from their PS2 manufacturing mistakes.

yeah, so far there are no known widespread PS3 defects. Hopefully we'll still be able to say that a year from now.

I use tape to allow my PS2 to play PS1 games without making a racket. Pieces don't even have to be one inch. Just four pieces making a box around the hole.
