i think you need a special program that allow you to get the steam but im not sure. it maybe a special internet hook up line or something weird. last year i was living at my uncles and he mentioned something about it but i never realy watch tv so i didnt bother to ask more. watching tv on your tv is probaly alot better, i dont watching movies on my computer, so i sometimes pull my couch over to watch my tiny computer screen.

Thank you Ωbright for the sig fix!
Card Three is released! You can find it here!

Well I like watching TV while playing video games. Only thing is I can only do that from a computer while watching TV. Being able to do vice versa would be cool.

Or you can just watch TV Broadcasts on your computer through the use of a TV Card. The cheap ones are only like $20-60 and are usually decent to excellent picture quality, but recording is not recommended unless you have a really good dual core computer, or don't plan on using your computer while recording.

Of course you still have to pay for the cable as it just uses the normal cable signal, but I like it, and it's useful for recording (I have one that uses Hardware encoding so it doesn't eat up my CPU), and looks pretty good for TV. You just have to play around with the color settings some to get it looking good, but after that it's pretty clear sailing. Certainly not as good as a good TV, but that's because there is a small amount of loss converting it, and Monitors have a slightly different color range than TVs.

Of course these also will allow you to hook up your Consoles to them, as they accept those inputs as well.

These are some good ones http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...nd&Order=PRICE

The one I have is a Winfast PVR2000. But you really only need hardware encoding if you're going to record a lot, like I do.

And to TTC: Are there any that just use a USB port or somthing like that, as I have a laptop thus I can't install hardware.

it's really not anything like youtube. besides that they both show videos of things. those sites are indexes of television shows/films. youtube is dumbasses doing stupid crap with a camera and making people that aren't them money.

All those websites link directly to youtube and other such websites. How is that not the same thing as Youtube? The thing I hate about youtube is that you have to load the video watch 10 minutes then you have to switch over to another video then load again, watch 10 minutes etc. I might as well have a few commercials than all that hassle. Plus It's not like TV at all as I can't let it wash over me or find somthing new to watch etc.

Yes but I don't have a lot of experience with them, so probably be prepared to send some back, or read a lot of reviews of them.

I was looking at a lot of them. This one seemed to be good on reviews and the such. It seemed to be in my budget range too. What are the horror stories with USB tv tuners? Or do you just not have any experience getting them to work?

95% of the time those sites don't link to youtube , youtube sucks. Sites like Dailymotion, Veoh, or sometimes Stage6 don't. Each link is usually a full episode and clicking two or three times to get to the next episode every half hour isn't that difficult. ****, sometimes they have entire movies in one piece.

Also, I already explained that those sites were indexes, so they filter out all the stupid crap, and don't host any videos, making them not like youtube.

If you're just interested in TV as white noise and have no interest in a free, easy to use service, or a particular show then by all means spend some of your money on a TV card. I fully support you having less money.

                        Re: TV on computer?

Oh well usually if I get something I normally get PCI since I have PC, and it's typically a better connection, but I think a lot of them work well, just I've never felt the need to get one, plus I record a lot, so it would be better for me to have an internal connection (also cheaper). I know someone who has one (a USB tuner, though I don't think it's on newegg anymore) and it works well for him.

I know that particular one does not have a TV tuner, so only game systems and such will play on it.

Not sure if this one will be any better but it has a TV Tuner

The quality on those sites aren't too bad, though the episodes don't always match up. Of course it's really a matter of time until they get shut down for copyright infringement, but that could be years from now.

This is why YouTube doesn't have full episode of things, because it's illegal (well without paying licensing fees).

                          Wow A $30 mail-in-rebate on a $40 item? That's impressive.

I decided to click through again. You're right, I guess before that it was just bad luck clicking on all those Youtube links because that's all I was getting. However I have to check again around noon to see who those videos will download. My connection at school is crap in the daytime.

Also I somtimes get the video going then it just stops halfway through and the video thinks it's all done and won't download it further. So then I have to clear my temporary files and start over hoping it will work. Very fustrating.
