    Keyboard Questions

Not Computer, musical. The question is, what kind of cord would be needed for this?

I know it's too small, but it says MIDI In/Out under the circular jacks, and the far left is power. Anyone know? Oh, and do you need software on the computer end?

    Re: Keyboard Questions

Any Midi keyboard should have the right cord.

If it's a MIDI keyboard (i.e., the keyboard itself doesn't have speakers), then yeah, you're going to need software (Cakewalk, Fruityloops, depends on what music you wanna make), a cord (just a simple male/male MIDI cord, probably available at your local radio shack) and a port to plug it into in the computer. Not ALL computers have ports for MIDI; actually, not many do anymore. If you did, you would plug a cord from the MIDI out socket to the computer.

If you're referring to the 2nd socket from left, I'm not sure. Depends on if it's a MIDI keyboard or an actual synthesizer.

              Re: Keyboard Questions

Can you make a larger picture (with more detail). It looks like a standard 1/8" stereo pin connection, but not sure if it would be for in (like a cd player or to hook up line out on your computer), or out (to headphones, computer line-in, etc.).

The circular one that is, the others are MIDI, as everyone else has said. I would imagine at radio shack you might also be able to find converters that are MIDI to 1/8" stereo mini pin (what your computer probably uses). Usually only higher end sound cards meant for recording are equipped with MIDI. I know MAudio makes quite a few.

I used to have a cable that adapted the old printer port connection into a midi in/out cable. I think my friend has it.

Yeah I saw a few MIDI to USB converters, but they either didn't have reviews or bad ones and were $40. Also most Sound Cards with MIDI inputs are the high end ones, so around $80-$150.
