Hack G.U...is it worth getting?

I've actually had an interest in getting all the major Hack games (perhaps trying to find the original Hack games in their entirety.) And now, Hack G.U. is making waves--with a second game in that series already underway after the first one was recently released.

I really dig the story about "the World". It's like a story about an MMO. I do agree that the G.U. series is darker in tone.

But the game itself seems interesting enough. What do you think? Have any of you played the Hack games? If so, should I go ahead and get G.U.?

I've played the first 4 .hack games. They are pretty much splitting one game into four 20-hour parts, so they can charge you money for each. It's a good game, but I might suggest waiting to buy it. You're only getting a part of a game if you buy it now. The second one one in G.U. is coming out in May, so you could have the first two... But it would still be an incomplete story.

The first series is finished though, and they are good games, so you might want to look into getting those if you are interested and haven't played them.

I watched the first .hack anime series, and I was into it until I realized the show was never going to go anywhere. Because of my interest in the show, I picked up the first game.

Eh, the .hack series itself is kinda boring, and they try to spice it up a bit in G.U. but believe me, it fails, and fails horribly >_< I like the story though.

I played G.U.1. My god, I couldn't wait until I was done. Good thing I rented it. The first hour or so was cool, but then it got boring.

If you've played the original .hack games, you should know what to expect.

Defenitely a rent and not a buy. GU is more intense than the original ones but still not as good. One thing to play this game is the story and the new designs on GU. I own like the fourth part of the old ones and they're taking dust in my room. As mentioned above at first its cool then it gets repetitive. Yes....the same repetitive dungeon crawling. At least GU adds a little more variety and allows you to use all weapons on the game ranging from swords to guns but you have to play all games to be able to use them all. First GU lets you use the twin blade and the great sword. The second I think lets you use the scythe and the third the gun. Worth a rent defenitely but no further than that. Good story and music but repetitive gameplay damages the whole experience.

The first 4 .hack games were just pure craptacular pieces of what Magus said, mediocre Bullcrap.

I can't even finish the last game of the original 4 cause it's mind-numbing as a whole.

And based on that experience, I say stay away from G.U.

Go ahead and rent it just to see if you might like it, but don't bother hunting down the original 4 games.

Well it is kind of boring, but the story is pretty good. I enjoyed them to some extent, but it does get really repetitive, like almost any hack and slash, and later on getting the virus cores is tedious as hell. Thanks to the Viewtiful two demo I had to play through the thing twice, but I finally beat it (the first .hack series).

As for the new one I haven't seen it. But yeah I would say rent it first see if you like the story enough to cope with the battle system. While it's not all that bad, you're teammates are as usual pretty dumb, but at least you can give them specific spells to do so they don't use one the enemy isn't weak too. So certainly an interesting concept, but about as fun as grinding in a typical MMO.

So I think it's worth a look, but maybe not worth a play through.

I like the concept, but I could never figure out what the story was about. I have the first two .hack games, but never finished the second one because I just got too bored with the dungeons.

They recycle the same dungeons and boring gameplay through each one. The new content doesn't really add much except more item hunting.

I wanted to finish the series to learn what the heck was going on. I just wish I could get a synopsis of the story. Wiki is just too messy to figure out what the story is.

The look of G.U. looks good but it seems to follow the same bland dungeon button mashing as the first series. But I would recomend buying the first series which is cheaper if you really want to play them.
