Advance Wars: Dual Strike-help needed

I'm stuck on mission 23 (I think), and I need some advice. It's the one with the volcanos on both fronts. I've been using Grit/Eagle, and I have captured all eight cities before, but taking EVERYTHING out in 18 days (especially the goddamn ooze) is nigh impossible.
Someone-help?

i'd help but it's been so long.


if it's a choose your own co mission, i'd try switching it up. and if it's a predeployed units map, i'd change to a co with stronger units or a more useful power.

Hmm, I just realized that my combo would be a lot better if Eagle starts the dual strike, because I wasted his last time. 3 moves might be enough...
Then again, with so much AA on the second front, maybe not Eagle. Sami? On the top, it's a mad rush to capture cities. I guess I don't have to on the bottom front (because thats negating attacks on the now-defunct top screen.) I thought that would stop the timer, but no.

Gamefaqs says Grimm and Jake. I guess I'll try that out, although when we need so much indirect fire I don't understand why theres Grimm over Grit. I suppose with so many free shots the attack bonus is super helpful while the defense penalty is nill...think I will try Grimm primary. I'm still choosing my own secondary.

I got stuck on mission 11 or something but only because I refuse to go on with less than a 300 score.

If you only have 18 days
to clear out a map ENTIRELY
don't give them a factory in the freaking corner!
If they build AA, it takes at least 3-4 days, more if they're blocking the one square wide passage, to get a tank on the factory.
HATE.

alright, i've checked it out, and while i have absolutely no memory of how i won, i'd say grit on the main battle is a good idea. eagle dosn't seem like such a hot choice up top, what with having almost no air units. i'd stick with someone like max or jess, if you have her by that point. i forget when you get who. someone with basically strong ground units. and send a couple of anti-air support units up top to help thin out the herd(missles or guns). it's worth it to deal with that sooner, so you have a boost when they get finished.


other than that, once you capture the airport, build any sort of unit and park it on their factory. and since they do tend to anticipate any incoming aircraft with aa guns, build a line of them and send them all to their factory, so you can surround and kill the gun, while still leaving a unit to park on the factory.


also, i seem to remember building a bomber or two as the battle wore on.

Hmm...
Gray, I do have Jess, and she's rank three already. Or I could use my Rank 10 Jake. I ALWAYS send the whole bottom left kit & kaboodle to help the top. I tried Sami there, but the capture bonus doesn't off-set her minus to direct-combat ground. My big problem is that I can't get to the airport before they do, so I'll make that a priority. I'll let you know how Grit/Jake or Grit/Jess works out.
At chuck: to the guide picks-
I'm taking the TOP volcano rather than the bottom. While the game suggests taking the bottom volcano to win the top front, that one usually goes faster for me anyway. Thus, Sami/Sonja is out (besides, Sonja is only for Fog of War, IMO.) Jake isn't as great as Grit due to all the indirect floating around. However, Hawke top screen is a pretty interesting idea, which I'll puruse if Grit/Jess fails.

i belive you mean it suggest Sami/Sonja, Jake/Eagle, and Rachel/Hawke for mission 23, because while hito did say mission 23, he actually meant 25. 23 is the three front battle with the large pipe divide, i belive.

I ALWAYS send the whole bottom left kit & kaboodle to help the top.

i might not do that. it could be why you have trouble taking over(assuming the group you send is more than just a couple of units). the top units are pretty strong and they shouldn't have much problem mopping up on your own with just a little help. knocking out the top is important, but you need to keep it balanced.


so i think, anyhow.

I won!
Grit/Jess was key. I kept the copters below. Not only did I win top faster, the big caveat came afterwards- with the dual strike, I was able to rush the factory with tanks. He couldn't build AA when my tanks were at his doorstep.

Thanks a lot, gray. btw, have you beaten the game yet?
And regarding the next mission- is this some kind of joke? You have to capture four com towers. I can't see it taking sami more than 9 turns (9 being when she typically gets victory march.)

congrats on the super win. and yes, i have beaten it. it is super fun. and the final battle isn't nearly as bad as some of the previous final battles.
