Congrats on the release of the demo and on your new forum, buddy. When I'm less tired, I'll try to post my thoughts on the version I played....if I have the time, I'll try to redownload it, and play the release version.

Perversion - It's so nice to have a game forum like this. Regarding your comments about posting and possibly playing the final version, that would be awesome, but yeah, get some rest first. (thanks again for all of your playtesting help)

Hitogoroshi- Thanks bro. I'd love to hear your feedback about it if you do play it.

          Re: Daniel's Quest III Demo

          Opening thoughts:

I played through this demo this weekend. I didn't want to because I hate demos/teasers, and would rather wait for the full product, but Pagerron has posted so much on the rpgm3 forum, helped a lot of people and been so encouraging with his color-coded reviews and such that I really wanted to see what kind of game he was making, and how it would measure up. Yes, that was one sentence.

Anyways, I don't intend to put down any other good rpgm3 games, but this is the funnest game I have played yet. Hands down. I shouldn't play it up too much, though, cause it is a demo and I don't want others expecting some crazy experience, but this is a solid, enjoyable demo of what is shaping up to be a great game. Let's just say that my wife put down what she was doing to watch me play like she does when I put in a game like Resident Evil or Final Fantasy, and like she never has done when I have put in any rpgm3 game.

          Environment:

The fields are extremely well done. They really create the sense of adventuring in a new land. And there is so much to explore in each of them, so many hidden secrets. And, Volcano! you have to see the volcano he created in the background of the main field. It looks out of place in an RPGM3 game. Also, the three different fields adjoin very well. In my head I was like, okay I'm north of here now, and then it felt like I was going back. And don't be scarred about any long travelling, because there are warp points connecting all of the main points of interest. This will be an even better feature in the full game.

          Characters & Plot

There are so many unique characters. I couldn't believe I had met and interacted with so many people in such a short demo. And this doesn't include the added handful of filler characters. The unique characters are all full of personality. Pagerron even added lots of the motions at just the right time in their dialogue to give them that added touch of character. Because of this, even the parts of the demo that felt like 'fetch quests' weren't tiresome: it was worth seeing what would happen when you helped the characters out. Also, the nice batch of characters really adds to the quality of the entire world, making it, too, feel like a real place.

          Gameplay

The game gets interesting quick. It starts off so cliched, you are in a castle, something was stolen, the king summons you. I was really worried. Then once you are in your town, the adventuring and exploring starts. In each room and in every little corner of the towns and fields there are secrets and hidden objects to be found. It is so rewarding. You won't get bored for a second; you will only get more and more involved in the game as you explore and start learning more and more about the world. It is fun and interesting.

          Battles

The ones on the fields suck. They are just pointless, all you get from them is some $ and an item, and, when you are at level one, they take a bit to get through. But, all you have to do is stay on the path to avoid them. That might've been a spoiler, but it really is necessary, for gamelpay enjoyment, to avoid those battles. They kind of hamper field exploration, cause I didn't explore as much as I know I would've had I known there were no random battles, but the risk of going of trail sorta keeps you on track. Conversely, the event-battles in the dungeon are fun, few, moderately difficult and rewarding.

          Ending thoughts:

The game was over much too quickly. I succeeded in getting the 'Most Excellent' ending. Even so, I left the demo on my memory card, because I know I will want to go back and look at the fields (and volcano) again. When you play, take your time and explore, especially the main town. I wish I could talk about what you can find, but it would ruin the fun of finding it, and the surprise.

On a more critical level, the game is deinitely theistic and a little bit over-friendly. I would like for Pagerron, next, to make a game with an anti-hero or at least someone who appears to have some faults. The theism isn't that pressing. Some people might get turned off by it, but it shouldn't ruin the fun of the game itself. And I thought it was cool how much Pagerron's personality showed through the game he created.

I cannot wait for Pagerron to release Daniel's Quest III as a full game.

            Irate Giraffe,

I don't know what to say. Wow! Thank you SO MUCH for all of those comments. Wow! Getting feedback like this is something I didn't expect, and it's really quite the motivation to get moving on the full game.

            Plot-Yep, I'll admit, it's cliched.

Battles in the field - I really was laughing out loud to read that "the ones on the fields suck." It's true. I can't deny it. My forte is definitely not battles. I have a lot of tweaking to do in order to make them more enjoyable. Both you and Perversion have encouraged me to work on them. I'm going to try my best to improve on them for the full game.

Environment- Thanks for the comments on the volcano. I enjoy the field editor so much. It takes so long to get things the way that you want them, but it is so satisfying to see the end product. Well, wait, who am I telling? You know from firsthand experience with the fields in "Elijah, Becoming."

Theism-That's okay if it turns some people off. God plays an important role in the game.

Thank you so much, Irate Giraffe. I really really do appreciate the support.

              Re: Daniel's Quest III Demo

HEY! You scored a game forum! That needed to happen. Now I REALLY can't wait to play DQIII!

I'll have to wait just a litle bit longer to transfer the demo to one of my memory cards, but I can't wait. This will help inspire me to finish the final version on SotT already! I only have 2 memoory cards, and since I'm working on 2 games (kinda at once) AND since my PS2 locks up about once an hour every time I use RM3, I have to do it a certain way.

Since I've already lost my data THREE TIMES when my PS2 locked up while saving, I can't afford to take any chances. Soon I'll be able to delete the 2 working data slots for SotT (when my playtest/tweakings are complete), and I have reserved those two slots for Series 1, and DQIII!

Oh and Irate Giraffe, that was supercool of you.

                Obright

I don't envy the hoops you have to go through to make sure your game saves take. It seems like your save system is a good one (with all of the backups you have). And the fact that your PS2 locks up on you frequently is frustrating for sure. I couldn't take that.

Thanks for posting. Hey, whenever you get to play the demo, that would be awesome. It's cool to know that you're interested.

Hey there! I'm currently in the process of getting the stuff I need to download
and upload games and such, just wanted to let you know, DQ3 is on the list
of games I want to play. As soon as I play it I will definately give you some
feedback ASAP. Until then, keep up the good work, and may all your code be bug-free! lol
How is that we grow so far so fast,
Yet still linger on the past that never was,
                    The present that never is,
And the future that will never be?

                      Hey MJM,

Thanks man. I really appreciate the support. There are lots of interesting games that people have created that are worth checking out.

Here's to bug-free coding for you too! Woo Hoo!

                      -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

                      Also-

Just wanted to say thanks to Obright who recently played through the DQIII demo. We communicated several times by PM about the game. He was able to finish playing it in spite of his bad health and even worse PS2 . His comments were very helpful in getting me to realize some of the changes I would like to make for the full version. Getting feedback is what makes game creation fun after all. Yay! Thanks bro.

                        Re: Daniel's Quest III Demo

This is kind of late. I apologize. But I do try to keep my promises, even if I take a while to get around to it.

Played the whole thing. I wasn't expecting it to be so brief, but what's here is nothing short of amazing!

Where to start? Well, there are so many skillfully designed special effects here, I felt like I was watching a Star Wars movie. It was mesmerizing. All of the effects are deftly woven into the action, and the whole thing appears to have been masterfully planned out. Loved the flashback scene! Also loved the use of body language during conversations. Loved the pots and myriad interactive elements. I'm trying to think of something I didn't like.

The town is a thing of beauty. I think I spent two days of game time there before finally venturing out onto the map. There's so much to do, it kept me busy going back and forth talking to people and doing things, looking for things. Loved the sage! That guy rocks! Loved the pet cemetary. You are a master of character interaction and interesting passive gameplay (non-battle related). There's so much going on here, and this is before I've even seen what lies beyond the town! Way past cool, man.

The deco is absolutely fabulous. You used boxes to create a counter top in a house! There's a lot of inventive uses for objects that I would've never thought of. Extremely creative. Very impressive.

I love the way you use multiple regions to recreate a single region, presumably to get around the 20-event limit per area. The cemetary is a great example, and it's deftly pulled off.

Your attention to detail is impeccable, especially with the objects we can't interact with until the full version is complete. Being told that "this object isn't available yet" went a long way toward stemming confusion.

The battles were challenging, but you give us access to everything we need to get through it. I love the "no battle" zones. Allows me to get where I'm going and explore without being constantly interrupted. And when I feel like fighting monsters, I can always stray off the path. This is how gaming with random encounters should be. The use of non-repeating events in a dungeon is spot on. Things there couldn't be better.

Love the field map. Love the rocky mountain. Love the volcano off in the distance! Awesome work, dude!

What really makes this game work, though, is the gameplay. My hat is off, Master Pagerron. You are a gifted individual, blessed with talent.

                          Re: Daniel's Quest III Demo

Crythania, THANK YOU for all of those kind words. From someone who has a full game published and another game well under way, I know that you have lots of experience with game creation, and that makes your post even cooler!

The flashback storyteller- That was a lot of fun to make. That storyteller is really a cool tool. (If only there were way to bypass the necessity to press the button after text. Oh well.)

Using multiple regions to create a more detailed one- Yeah, you're exactly right. Having only twenty events in a town is kind of limiting, so it's worth sacrificing a bit more memory to get more stuff into one town. Thanks for noticing that.

I'm glad you had a good time with the demo. I appreciate your communication with me by PM too.

How I wish I had more time to work on the full game. Well, little by little, right?

                          Thanks bro.

I feel like I'm making good progress on the full game, and the feedback I've gotten here in this thread (and by private message) has really given me some good insight on ways to make things better in the full game. Thanks to everyone who has replied so far!!

I'm really looking forward to giving a good update in the full game progress thread in about a week or so.

Ok I just finished the demo and yeah I'm impressed. Mainy with all the interactive stuff in the world.

                              World Map
It was interestingly done to say the least. I like how Pagerron broke it up into sections. It made it feel so real. You could see what you were walking into before you warped there. That was nice Yeah the volcano is nice, but I'm more impressed with the cosway to the beach. I wish that was in the demo. The battles, I'll just not talk about them because that's not what the games about. It's nice that you can follow the path to avoid them.

                              Towns
The main town was done very well. There were so many people and things to interact with. Every person had their own personalities and relationship with the main character. I'd say the cemetary was the best part. You did a great job of changing the mood when you entered it. Davids Grove was good as well I just didn't like how little of the town was used. You walk in and the house was right there. You couldn't get by it.

                              Story/Plot
The story is kind of weak at first. You learn of what the king want's you to do, but you don't do it at all in the demo. You focus on side missions to open up other peoples side missions. That's not a bad thing though because they were still fun. Pagerron did a good job at making you feel apart of the community. Every character was kind of related in a way.

                              Random
Pagerron did a good job at keeping you interested. He did many little things that make the game come alive. (I like the baby on the bed) At no point did the game seem boring. You always wanted to know what was going to happen next or what someone would say. Right away you learn to look every where and at everything and it becomes rewarding. I found it funny that he had promoted other games in it. Just something you wouldn't expect. I also thought it was cool how he had parts of the game blocked off, but said it would be in the full game. Like the orb thing on the ground. I want to know now! Oh well, I'll have to wait. I also liked the destroyed trees on the field. They looked cool in a line.

                              Overall
PLAY THE GAME!!! It was worth the two hours. I'll probably play it again so I can get the better ending. It's a unique experiance and you won't be disoppointed.

                              Good job Pagerron.
