    DDR Question

I am looking to get one. This will be my first one.

So should I get the XBOX 360 "DDR Universe" or try to find the PS2 ones?

I am planning on getting the Wii's DDR when it comes out.

    Re: DDR Question

Well the Xbox selection of games is very limited, so I'ld go with PS2, cause once you have a pad you can use it for all the other games without having to buy new pads and you'll have a better selection of games and songs. Of course you could always get one of the pad that works for both systems.

DDR's awesome! I'm so glad you're taking interest in it!

Yeah, the PS2's got an extensive DDR library with a lot of different songs and dance moves. My favorite is Disney Mix. I'd say go for tor the PS2 versions--they're not TOO hard to find and they're probably at good prices. Oh, and I CANNOT stress this enough--do NOT get dance pads made by the third-parties. ALWAYS get the official Konami pads. I would try and find a DDR bundle if you can find them at GameStops and such. If not, go online. But whatever you do, get the official Konami dance pads.

      And....give it your best!

I have every Playstation and PS2 mix, and they're all great. In the Groove is also on PS2, which you can use the same pads for. I've never played the Xbox games, but they have downloadable songs, which is pretty neat. But there aren't as many games.

Oh, any I'm going to disagree with Misty. I have metal 3rd party pads for my PS2 which were like $100 each, and they are awesome and work just as good as the ones at the arcade. It's also fun to play on the controller sometimes.

I was actually referring to the third-party plastic dance pads but the steel ones are nice. I had a plastic dance pad made by Nyko and it failed on me after a few days. My own experiences are unique, however.

Oh yeah, you're right. All the plastic ones suck

If you're really into it though, its definitely worth it to spend the extra money on a metal pad.

              Re: DDR Question

I suggest the PS2 line, starting with DDRMAX2. It's great to get into if you're completely new to DDR, as it has the Beginner difficulty. It also has a great song list, compared to the other PS2 DDRs IMO.

I have a plastic pad, and it's worked so far for 3 years. Mileage will vary though.

Hmm, it seems I would do best to go with the PS2 for now. I guess I'll probably go with plastic one, since I don't have enough money to go better than that.

I'll be sure not to go with any 3rd party plastic ones.

                  Re: DDR Question

You can buy rather decent foam pads for as little as $50, and I GREATLY recommend you do so unless you're planning on staying on the Beginner and Light difficulty levels forever. Once you get to Standard the cheap plastic ones will slide around a lot, and they'll literally fold on themselves if you try using them on Heavy/Oni modes.

Metal pads are the best for simulating the arcade experience and don't slide at all, but they're more expensive, noisier, and harder on your feet. I have a RedOctane Ignition 2.0 (3.0 has had some problems), a sturdy 2" foam pad that feels great on the feet, is usually very responsive, and only slides a bit. It cost me $100 (new) two years ago, but I do love it.

DDR is really fun; it's not QUITE as good at home as at the arcades, but you can get a much more steady stream of play, and you can take a shower right afterwards, so it's well worth it.

I don't know much about the XBOX ones but unless they have literally hundreds of songs on Universe, I'd recommend going for the PS2 versions. Between them you can get MOST of the good songs you'll find in any arcade, plus a lot of decent pop and house that are exclusive to the consoles (and a fair amount of crap).

DDRMAX2 is the best version for its great songs and good grading system. DDRMAX would probably be my second choice (be aware that there's no beginner mode, but Light is easy enough), and DDR Extreme a close third. Don't bother with DDR Extreme 2 (which has a poor signal-to-noise ratio on the songlist and the worst unlock system I've ever seen in any game) unless the few good songs on there are too much to resist, or you like crappy EyeToy minigames. I haven't played the original PSX DDR or Konamix, but I've heard that the latter was very good. Also note that ITG is compatible with DDR Dance Pads, but that's more of a game for people who are already experts.
