    Quick Question, Resume Help

For years now I've been the family "computer guy" and not only family members but people I don't know will get me to hook up their computers or fix a problem they're having and usually pay me for it so I figure this is something that could go on my resume. I just have no idea how to list it. Could somebody help me out?

Sorry, I don't know how to do an accented e on here.

You could try "Household Computer Troubleshooter".

I would just say that you've done a fair amount of troubleshooting with whatever operating system.

Don't list that it was for your family, but also don't make up a job title or anything.

This sort of thing should be under skills, and not part of jobs you've held. For each job you've held, you need to have a supervisor. No supervisor -- no job.

Possibly list it under a Skills section as "Expert in Computer Hardware and Troubleshooting" or something of hte like?

Well expert might be going a bit too far, but if you think you can back it up in an interview, more power to you. But I would certainly list it under skills, then talk about it in an interview. Don't downplay it too much, but just say something like though I have no formal experience in this field, I have done a lot of work for people I know, and have always been able to fix the problem. This is of course if you have no other experience. I'm sure that could be worded a little better, but just remember a little embellishment can help you, but overdo it and they find out later and you could get fired.

So put something like Knowledgeable in Computer Hardware and Troubleshooting, then put some operating systems you have worked with. Like they've said you can't really list this as experience on a resume, but it would certainly be good material for an interview to pick out the tougher jobs you've done and talk about them.

Monster.com has tons of great tips for this, been studying up on it for a career fair tomorrow/today.

Ok, so list it as a skill. The only official jobs I've had have been two summer jobs years apart. In 2000 as an "Administrative Assistant" and one in 2005 at a sub shop. So since those were both only for a couple months would I be better off not listing anything for work experience. I'm just thinking a blank slate looks better than seeming like I'll quit after two months.

if you are a president of a company then of course you do not have a supervisor. you can then use someone close to your level of power as a reference. you can also use this to cheat the system. unless the job is a formal one id keep it off.

i have to work on my resume soon.
