I was absent from class and missed an exam. I had the flu, and we only meet once a week. So I talk to him about a re-take. He gives me hell then finally will let me do it under one condition: I get a doctors note. So I do that.
I just turned in the doctor's note we talked about to the administration office today, this was the soonest I could get it in so whenever you would like me to make-up the exam would be great just let me know.
Thanks for being diligent on that task.
I checked my records, and, as you mentioned, you did have perfect attendance up until the first exam day, then were absent the next two. I am not clear as to day you were sick. The note says for the second week, but you clearly knew that the exam was changed to the first week. I don't want an answer, I am just expressing my thoughts.
So, since the testing center will be closed for the next week, and since I have given back the exam, I will be changing the format of the exam to an essay style. We will have to wait until the testing center is open in two weeks. Are you available to take the exam between 2:30 and 5:30pm March 26th, 28th, 29th or 30th? I expect the exam to take 2 hours because of the essay format, but you will be welcome to spend 3 hours if you desire. This means the starting time will be 3:30, but I suggest you start at 2:30 to make sure you say what you want to say. The testing center is located in room 2475 on west campus, in the same building as our class. The proctor is named Jim Kaempfer.
Let me know which of these 4 days fits your schedule as I am not able to offer any other times. I will arrange with Jim for the exam on the day you specify. Please get back to me by monday.
The only day I will be available to take this exam would be on the 30th, I have to work have classes I will be in on all of the other times listed. Thanks again.
You were to get back to me last week by monday. I was waiting for your response, hearing none, I did not make an exam for you and will not be doing so for you. I have made enough exceptions for your case.
If you are worried about your grade in this class, I would drop this section and retake the class when you are prepared to take classes. I know you are capable of going to a class, you just need to actually take the quizzes and exams in classes when they occur in a class. Put the energy that you put into picking up the pieces after an exam into the beginning of a class so that you are prepared and you will find classes are actually really easy to take. You are a bright guy and will do really well in academia if you take responsibility for your own path in it.
Seeing as that's how you feel dropping the class then seems like it would be the best course of action. It's probably too late to drop without some form of a penatly on my transcript, I have no idea, but I've exhausted all other options. I feel like I'm just making up excuses, even though this is not the case, and am doing nothing but frustrate you in the process.
You'd be hard pressed to find someone able to reply to an e-mail that promptly when they had no internet access and was out of town, what with it being spring break and all. I did read the part about you wanting a response by Monday when it was four days past and when I got home, which was the soonest I was able to check my e- mail. I was assuming you meant today, obviously you didn't.
You were not "hard pressed" to get an email response from me within 4 hours of your request for an exam time. It seems negligent that you would ask for such a thing then not make arrangements to continue that contact.
Let me know if you need a signature on the drop form.
I remember you telling me that if I need something I need to be diligent, and while I'm trying to just that I can't help but feel like I'm only ******* you off. I got the doctor's note to you as soon as I was able to. You told me that if I got that to you within that week I could take a make-up exam once we get back from Spring Break.
Now I apologize that I wasn't able to reply to your response as promptly as you were able mine, but this was inevitable. After I scanned and sent that e-mail to you I left town for spring break. I did not have access to the internet during this time and had no way of checking my e-mail. I had no way of knowing that you wanted a response by Monday, as indicated within that very same e-mail.
I could agree with you on the claim of negligence if it were just a weekend, of if I just blew it off for no reason. But I was out of town, during a week where there was no school scheduled and I replied to you as soon as I was able. Why would I go through all this work to try and schedule a make-up exam and just sabotage it at the last minute? I have nothing to gain from that. .
To clarify, I meant to be persistent AND responsible, not persistent and IRResponsible.
I don't have time to discuss this further.

Went from a high A to the only way I could get a B was a 100 on the Final Exam.
