XSEED's Triple Threat (including Wild Arms 5!)

XSEED's on a roll this year.

XSEED Games has announced that they will be bringing three more titles stateside this year, Wild ARMs 5, Dungeon Maker: Hunting Ground, and Brave Story: New Traveler.

Dungeon Maker: Hunting Ground for the PSP features a simultaneous dungeon creation element and real-time battle system. Players will hunt monsters inside the dungeons they create to complete quests for townspeople and hunt for gold and equipment. Players, as the "Architect", are ultimately trying to create a dungeon so deadly as to attract the legendary Wandering Demon to defeat.

Brave Story: New Traveler, also for the PSP, is developed by Game Republic, the minds behind the Genji titles. An 11-year-old boy and his friend Miki are traveling one day, as Miki collapses, and the main character is unable to revive his friend. However, a strange voice offers, "Beyond the door you can change your destiny!" It is up to the main character to go to the world of Vision and overcome many obstacles to have a single wish granted by the Goddess of Fortune.

Last, but certainly not least, is Wild ARMs 5, released in Japan as Wild ARMs: Vth Vanguard. This iteration in the Wild ARMs series brings back the HEX battle system from Wild ARMs 4. A hundred years before the beginning of the newest iteration of the series, a race named the Veruni landed on the planet Filgaia, and with their superior technology were able to dominate mankind. Humans are now relegated to a second-class status. At the beginning of the game, a hundred years after the landing of the Veruni, Dean Stark and Rebecca Streisand witness the arm of a golem fall from the sky - but this golem's arm clutches a girl in its fist, a girl who has no idea who she is or where she came from.

XSEED games, already planning the release of Valhalla Knights on April 17, will release Wild ARMs 5 and Brave Story: New Traveler in the third quarter of 2007, while Dungeon Maker: Hunting Ground will be released in July.
I'm so looking forward to Wild ARMs 5.

I wonder if they'll release WA5 with horrible bugs like they did 4.

Where can I find more info on the bugs? I'm attracted to game dirt.

As long as the platforming is in, I'll bite on WA5.

the bugs were discussed a lot on the gamefaqs message board for the game.

they weren't anything game-breaking, but they were annoying. I believe one made it impossible for you to get 100% completion.

Alter Code F had a ton of bugs too. Media Vision has just been lazy as hell lately.

I'm interested in Vth because the game was written by Kaoru Kurosaki, a real life novelist, and not a programer or producer who had some ideas.

When else has that ever happened? Advent Rising, I guess, but Orson Scott Card is a hack.

            I like Orson Scott Card.
Also, I'm angry about my lack of a PSP, because Dungeon Maker sounds so awesome.

The HEX System makes a return in WA5. I find it okay, but I liked WA's original battle system a little better. It was straightforward and fun.

Plus, I'm so glad XSEED didn't go for a futuristic logo for WA5's cover art. They brought it back to the Western-style as it should be. And I hope Michiko Naruke was up to the full soundtrack since her illness prevented her from composing much of the songs for WA4. She always knew how to fit the mood right for the series.

i loved the origonal battle system, perhaps i just enjoy it becuase what i grew up on.

im not a fan of the hex system, as you have to plan stratigies for every single encounter, even if all you want to do is just fart about and level some. most of their testing has been slopy lately, creating the anoying bugs spoken here. i strongly sujest finding out all the serious bugs (like the 100% complition bug) before you play.

ive been a fan of the series ever since they first produced the origonal, and i will of course buy wa5. western themes in the series realy drew me to it.

Thank you Ωbright for the sig fix!
Card Three is released! You can find it here!

I can't wait for WA5. But I hate the fact it brings back that stupid search feature to find a town. That has to be the most annoying feature from 3.

The hex system is ok, but I think it simiplifies the battles too much. I want a bit more dynamic. Like Grandia 3's battle system or if real time, then Rogue Galaxy's.

The only WA I've played was 3, I lost intrest very quickly though.

But... But... I thought everybody liked making every single encounter a deadly struggle with deep strategy and stuff.

Strategy for all battles work only if you bring down the amount of battles you'll go through. Nobody wants to go through 40-50 battles that each take 2-5 minutes in a single dungeon.

I look at Baldur's Gate as an example of a game that uses strategy with limited battles that works.

As for WA....eh. I tried to like WA3, I really did, but some of the mechanics just GRATED on me. Like the aforementioned needing to "find" towns (although I believe that originated in WA2).

I thought the leveling in WA3 took too long. You didn't get a lot of EXP nor did you get a lot of money for upgrading your ARMs. Doing that is so expensive, but worth it nonetheless.

And Heal Berries.....you couldn't buy them in shops anymore--you had to grow them. But at least you found Heal Berries when you defeated monsters often.

I REALLY liked WA3's music. So Westerny. It's like Final Fantasy meets the Good, the Bad and the Ugly.

Sad thing about WA3 is that the only thing I really enjoyed and was obessed over, was finding those storybooks.

They were great! Adventure, romance, and a childhood dream realized.
