Wow. Has it really been a whole year since I was last at the Pavilion? Nice look. Good to see some familiar faces are still here. Sad to learn others have gone for good.
My lengthy absence has not been unproductive, however. I took some time off at the end of 2005 from developing my RPGM2 game to work out the details of the story. The story took over, and I wound up writing a novelization of my game-in-development. The result is that I have now completed the manuscript, and entered it into a contest. Being that this forum, and the people here, were a big help in the development of my game, I thought you might be interested in seeing where the creative path has led my project.
Ambition, by Paul Radley, Jr.
The contest, called First Chapters, is being sponsored by Touchstone/Simon & Schuster, and offers a publishing contract for the winner. The format of the contest is more like a popularity contest. The first chapter of an entrant's manuscript is posted to a forum at Gather.com for 14 days, during which time people can read and rate it. The top 20 rated manuscripts advance to the second round, during which their second chapters will be posted. The best ten from the second round advance to the final round and have their third chapters posted. The top 5 finishers will then be judged by a panel to determine the winner.
More than 2500 manuscripts have been submitted to the contest, and many -- like mine -- were submitted in the final days. To help keep my entry from being lost in that glut of chapters, I ask that you read my entry, and rate it.
Ambition will only be available to read and rate through March 30!
I ask that you also peruse the other entrants, to see what I'm up against, and rate their work as well. Constructive comments are always appreciated. In order to vote or comment, you will have to register for a free Gather.com account. Those who vote are asked to "consider the following criteria equally when judging: 1) Quality of writing (including grammar and spelling); 2) Author's ability to engage the reader; 3) Originality of the author's voice; 4) Potential of the finished book in the marketplace."
I sincerely thank you for your time, and hope that you find my entry entertaining and engaging. If you like it, please pass this along to your friends and family. Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks,
Paul
