    PSP2? Update! Confirmed!

    http://kotaku.com/gaming/top/rumor-n...ing-242845.php

Looks like this keeps coming up. people in the industry are telling Kotaku that it's due out at the end of this year.

    let me comment on this.

    ****!

I'm getting ready to replace my current PSP with a shiny new one. I don't want to get something that'll be outdated within a few months. Looks like I have to though. yay.

if this thing is real (and it likely is) I'm screwed. So are the rest of you new PSP owners. Cheers!

EDIT: It's confirmed by sony: http://kotaku.com/gaming/psp/psp-red...med-243750.php

      Re: PSP2?

I think a touch ccreen would just be for XMB navigation, since I dont think they want to force people to upgrade just to play new PSP games. kind of like new versions of the PS2 added new features, but nothing that stopped anyone with older versions of the hardware from playing any games.

        Re: PSP2?

I wouldn't be surprised if they made games with the touch screen needed, that way it would force people to buy PSP2, which equals more mula. Too bad thats all the industry cares about anymore; money money money.

Isn't that the entire point of any industry? If they aren't in it for the money, then they are in the wrong line of business.

              Re: PSP2?

You are really naive if you think most people would buy a new PSP for touch screen games. They'd most likely say "**** you, Sony" and not buy the game. Look at the historical failures of any add-ons/upgrades to a system. At best it divides the user base and at worst is a complete and utter failure out of the gate.

If anything I think making it a touch screen would make the controls for certain games more intuitive, but I doubt ANY game company other than Nintendo would have the balls to make a game that REQUIRES use of the touch screen.

At any rate, I've been contemplating getting a new PSP due to some minor problems related to having dropped mine a couple times, and an upgrade like this is the perfect excuse.

Plus, Sony's actually ADDING to the system's functionality, rather than just making a couple minor cosmetic changes.

Whatever happened to making games merely because they'd be fun to play?

Nintendo's philosophy isn't 100% about profit, for example. While I don't prefer Nintendo's games, it isn't hard to see why they are selling so well as of late. The gamer has to get something in return. Sony and Microsoft would just like to get the money without really giving much in return. Sony's case, being the most extreme, has been turning off even the casual buyers.

                        Re: PSP2?

Well, there is a world of difference between wanting to make a profit and making bad business decisions. While Sony is wanting a big profit, they have been making some pretty bad decisions to get in the way of that. Nintendo, on the other hand, has been doing a pretty good job of making their product appealing. Not to say, that they are clean of any misdeeds, it's that they are doing a pretty good job of selling with their actions. Sony really should get back on the boat and set sail... which I think they are attempting to do. Adding new gimmics is often done in order to draw in more customers. Of course, the risk is rather high with such attempts. More times than not, blowing up in one's own face. I would love if everything was done just to intertain us, but this is not the case. We like something, they make money off of it, they go with the flow.

Ya you pretty much said was i was going to say. There are very few companies that make games because of their desire to MAKE games. Companies like EA, that push a new version of the game out every year just to get more money. From a business stand point, sure its a good idea, but from a consumer/gamer stand point, its just plain greedy. Thats what i miss about the SNES age of games, companies had quality games that you remember for all time, but now, it seems all they care about is pushing out a product and less about how fun the game is.
