I was under the impresion that one "dies" every time you use a transporter. I thought each new transporter use creates a new "instance" of that person, which it sends to the destination, much like a fax machine.

But...I'm not well versed in Trek tech, so I could be dead wrong.

Pretty much it turns you into data and energy then sends you through the transporter buffer, that then takes the data and rematerilizes you from data and energy back into matter. Essentially it is more like an E-Mail then a Fax Machine. I believe.

However if there are more than one person in the buffer it may cause perople to merge TUVIX!!!

Yeah, but that data and energy... are the same atoms of your original composition used in the reconstruction? Or does the transporter reconstruct you using new atoms? That makes a difference, doesn't it? I mean, if different atoms are used in the rebuilding, then "you" are the same "you" that you were prior to being transported, eh?
