Re: What is kings field?
If you think it's Doom, of course you'll think it's poorly executed.Originally posted by Misty View PostI remember my friend had it for the very first PlayStation. It was like Doom with a sword.
I liked the idea, but it was poorly executed.
It's a slow and very atmospheric RPG that takes place in a first person perspective. Kind of an acquired taste, but if you get into it, it can be a great series. Big on exploring every nook and cranny and takes a lot of patience.
Incidentally, I'll note that King's Field II is one of favorite games ever.Last edited by Patryn; 03-06-2007, 11:04 PM.

Re: What is kings field?
king's Field is a 3D, first-person adventure RPG. The main draw of the series is the atmosphere. There are no towns, no cities to seek refuge in. you start each game without any weapons or armor, and completely alone. Your character goes into the location not knowing anything about it. you are essentially helpless. This is the major divider with the series. the reason most people hate it is the same reason a lot of people absolutely love it. I'm one of those people who love it.
King's Field: The Ancient City is my favorite installment in the series. the design of the game and the archetecture within is just amazing. the environments have a great flow to them and make perfect sense. There's nothing in the games that make it seem like a game (like mysteriously high platforms that only exist to give the character a reason to jump really high). its like a warped, disturbing real world environment put into polygon form.
It's hard to explain what I love about the series so much. its not something easily put into words.
I could not possibly disagree with this comment more. To believe that anything in KF is poorly executed is to completely misunderstand the point of KF and what the series is trying to do. it's not trying to be like other first-person games. it doesnt want to be elder scrolls. it wants to be KF.but it was poorly executed.
There are a few hardcore KF fans here (none more so than Septiego) who can likely explain better.
Fun fact: I'm a character in King's Field: The Ancient City. You can find me in some oceanside caves, stranded because I dont know how to swim. My character goes by my real name, Paul Hutchison.
Our good friend Mistafopa is also a character in the game. he warns you not to drink poisoned water, but only warns you after you drink it.Last edited by Valkysas; 03-06-2007, 11:10 PM.

I didn't mean to be so insensitive. I'm sorry.
I'm not saying King's Field is a bad game at all. I'm not! Maybe I didn't play it enough.
I know Pavvies have rights to their opinions, but I rarely give any because I'm afraid I'll lose their respect if they disagree with me. Again, I'm sorry for what I said.Last edited by Misty; 03-07-2007, 12:00 AM.
