Silent Hill Origins
"Let's make it like RE4"
Screw you Konami. You can take the camera angle from RE4, that's a plus. The old camera sucked hardcore. But don't make that the only "innovation".
Do something original Konami. Like incorpoate more survival aspects into the game, instead of making it into the massacare that the past games have been. Include "sanity effects" ala Eternal Darkness minus the Mental Health meter. Ditch the notes and memos you find throughout the game as a method of telling the storyline. It's been done too many times. Ditch the lame fetch quest puzzles as well.
Back to Eternal Darkness and the sanity effects. That was a great idea, but it's execution failed. "Hey, my green meter is low that's why the game is acting screwy. Let's just cast magic and heal myself." So it never caught you off guard, you knew it was coming. Imagine playing a Silent Hill when things shift into "dark" Silent Hill, where anything can happen and the game messes with you hardcore. Throw in a bunch of instant deaths and chase sequences, but with an improved continue system instead of starting out where you last saved to prevent frustration. Etc. Etc.
I think that the series would benefit greatly if they got a gutsy director behind the helm. Granted, this game hasn't even been released. But I can tell exactly what's it's gonna be like. They need to embrace what makes the series special, instead of copying the broken formula's from it's predecessors.
I'm severly dissapointed in Konami as a company. Castlevania, Silent Hill... I love those franchises but if they continue to shell out uninspiried sequel after another and run the series into the ground I'm going to lose hope. In Portrait of Ruin and Silent Hill 4 they even recycled areas--it's insulting. The only reason Konami is still thriving (IMO) is because of Hideo Kojima.
