Hey, PS3 owners (owner?). You know those PS1 games you've been downloading to play on PSP? Pretty soon you'll be able to play them right on your PS3 too.
I'm sure there are some thinking "who cares PS3 already plays PS1 games" but when some of the ultra-rare games start going for download it'll mean being able to play them without scouring eBay.
FIRMWARE v2 - Downloaded PS1 games will play on the PS3
The next major update to the Playstation 3 firmware will not be v1.55. The changes to the Playstation firmware are deemed to be so significant that it will in fact be v2.0, and will bring 'big changes.' It will be available to the European market at the time of the PS3 launch (23rd March). It may be available to the Japanese and North American PS3 owners a week or two earlier. Apparantly Sony regard the PS3 launch to date as being a 'soft' launch- ie, creaating brand awareness, and fixing manufacturing and distribution issues. The launch of firmware 2.0 and assoicated updates of services is being described by Sony as 'mindblowing' and is the start of the 'real launch' - and a massive push by Sony.
Confirmed: Playstation 1 games downloaded over the Playstation Network will now play directly on the PS3, as well as on the PSP console.
Unconfirmed: +my source has heard 2nd-hand, but cant confirm the usual whispers about the relaunch of the Sony Connect service for music and music videos, and video on demand on Sony programmes.
Personally, I cant bloody wait.
