    Blu Ray 'Players'?

I'm sure this is rather old news, but this
    is pretty crazy.

Sony is selling a blu ray player for 1000 bucks, when the PS3 does it anyway, and plays games, for 400-800?

Am I missing something? Is there a difference between actual players vs the PS3's capabilities of playing Blu-Ray?
    I love lamp.

Well, now they're releasing a stand alone blu ray player for $600 in line with the PS3 price. PS3 still does a lot more for the same money though. And here's the odd thing, the $1000 model didn't play CDs, it played blu ray and DVD but not CD.

And I'm pretty sure the PC blu-ray recorder drive from Sony was $700 when it came out. Though Lite-On has one now for $568 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827106037. Though of course to use these to watch Blu-ray you will need an HDCP compatible video card and monitor. So worth it to watch Blu-ray, but 2X Blu-ray is still slower than 8X DVD, so not worth getting as a storage solution yet.

And at $15 for a 25GB disc, buying DVD+/-R DL is a better deal at ~$40 for 25. So Blu-ray is $.60/GB, DVD DL is $.18/GB and HDs are $.25/GB-$.40/GB for 7200RPM SATAII, and $1.4/GB for 10000RPM SATAI.

By contrast there isn't even an HD-DVD drive, and the media is the same cost per GB as Blu-ray, but the disc is half the capacity. So even if HD-DVD wins the consumer market, it won't be the next recordable medium.
