Yes, Fry's always has more PS3's than any other store in my area, but at every other store in my area, you cant find PS3's, they sell out almost immediately.
It's just wierd and a little insincere that they're claiming to be fixing a shortage when there obviously isn't one. Then they'll brag about their units shipped even though half of them are still sitting on shelves. The whole "but we want them sitting on shelves" line is the really funny part. Yes, having them out there is better than impossible to find like Wii but you also don't want them collecting dust.
Like i said before, it depends upon where you go and who you ask as to wether there are any. Just because you see lots in your area, doesnt mean that other places dont sell out quick, and vice versa.
Our goal is to fill shelves across the United States. Our goal is not to have empty shelves, it's to have full shelves. If we have empty shelves, that's one less consumer who could have bought a PLAYSTATION 3.
Brilliant.
You would think the goal would be to have empty shelves, because your console is sell so much. So instead of going like hotcakes I guess Sony wants then to set around like burgers at McDonalds at around 3PM when no one is in the restaurant. I'm curious as to how much this guy gets paid to be a 'buisnessman' since he doesn't seem the know the first thing about it. I guess maybe they know about a lot of killer games coming out that the public doesn't. Or maybe they want the PS3 to be like the N64, which I think you can now buy cheaper than a NES or SNES used (and in a rainbow of colors too).
Also Jeroak, the point is there is still not enough demand to sell all of them, so while there probably is enough demand to warrant a small supply increase, Sony is acting like they are flying off the shelf everywhere. I know most companies typically won't admit that their product is not selling well (bad publicity) but they usually don't crank up supply to a demand that is not consistent across every store and area. Though if they do it will likely be good for the consumer, as it will mean a price drop, given that a lot of them will be sitting on the shelves somewhere, since so many already are.
So I hope the guy just misworded his and Sony's intentions, because as worded it seems really dumb.
Hey, there's supposed to be some really good news about PS3 coming from GDC next week. The conference director said PS3 owner will be "very happy" after the keynote. And he's not a Sony talking head so it's not just PR BS. I wonder what it'll be. One way or another PS3 will eventually shape up to be a great system, that won't change the fact that Sony made me dislike them but one has little to do with the other as far as I'm concerned.
This is the same idiot that told EGM in january that the PS3 had sold out everywhere in the country, and no stores could keep them in stock. EGM quickly called him out on that. Look for my topic "Jack Tretton is an idiot" or something like that for more info. he even offered a $1200 bounty on any PS3 found on a store shelf.
he's living in his own little fantasy world.
His comments, which are never even remotely based in fact, are honestly hurting the PS3. He says things that cause people to prove him wrong at every turn. He causes people to focus on every single stupid thing he and the rest of the sony execs say every time they open their mouths. with him and the rest of the sony higher-ups, there's a never ending flow of stupid comments. The gaming community focuses on these stupid comments, makes fun of sony for it, and in the process turns people against buying the PS3.
The PS3 is selling. It's not selling particularly well. It's doing Gamecube type sales right now. You don't say things that cause everyone to focus on this. You just don't talk about it. you focus on the genuinely good things happening or coming up for the system, not try to cover it's shortcomings with lies.
As I've said before, and I'm sure most people feel the same way: I don't hate the PS3, I just hate Sony.
if they'd shut their goddamn mouths for a month or two, they could be on their way to fixing that pretty easily. it's hard to feel positive about people who never tell the truth and make up "facts" left and right.
