    EB Disses PSP

    http://kotaku.com/gaming/nintendo/eb...psp-237933.php
Thats going a bit far, really. There ARE games worth playing for the PSP, and the system certainly isnt dead yet. It's doing good, just not as great as the DS is.

That's ****ed up. The DS is doing better saleswise, but the PSP is still a good system, too.

I play my PSP (Thanks Kire!) primarily for Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops. Which, for me, is truly special.

But damn... $100 towards a DS Lite is mighty tempting...

There are several games for the PSP I would love to have. C'mon, I would probably buy a PSP for MGS Portable Ops, alone.

I play my PSP primarily for Mega Man Powered Up. I never get tired of making new stages.

Armored Core on the bus is pretty cool, too.

Yeeeahhh, that's pretty much what I did. I couldn't live knowing an official MGS would be out of my grasp.

But I also got Maverick Hunter X and Metal Gear Acid 2, which aren't bad. Maverick Hunter X is pretty damn good in fact, but MGA2 just seems useless now with the sublime Portable Ops around.

I'm still interested in picking up Lumines, Vice City Stories and Mega Man Powered Up if I can still find them for cheap.

Oh, and Gurumin just came out to good reviews, and it looks charming as hell so I'll check that out once nobody buys it and stores cut the price in half to get it off their shelves.

Plus, with Square's (FF7, FFT) and Konami's (Portable Ops sequels, Dracula X) support the PSP isn't all that big of a waste after all.

Y'know who's not supporting the PSP?

            Sony.

When are they gonna get their act together with the PSone emulation? When will they make peace with the homebrewers? When will they release O.S. updates that are actually useful, like allowing Home browsing while playing MP3s or while using the USB connection?

They just don't seem to care.

I hope to get a PSP this year. Though I love my DS, I'm very interested in a PSP.

I'm missing out on some good games. MGS Portable, Power Stone Collection, Gradius Collection, Mega Man Powered Up....

                I'm a sad panda.

When will they make peace with the homebrewers?
Never, because doing that would make piracy of the PSP software even easier. They need to CRUSH homebrew. They need to come up with a way to destroy the possibility of custom firmware.

the reason the PSP is failing is because software sales are so low. Why are they low? because it's obscenely simple to just download the games and run them off a memory stick. Its not like you need anything extra to play pirated games with the PSP. get the 250 pack with the 1 gig memory stick, pick up a used GTA for 10 bucks, and you never have to pay a cent for PSP games again.

The homebrew scene has to be destroyed if the PSP is to succeed. Yeah, there are people who talk about them only using homebrew for random user-made applications. They're a very small minority. Most people that I've observed want the custom firmware so they dont have to buy games anymore.

I really hope Sony comes up with a way to stop those assholes. If they have to come up with a whole new model of the PSP to do it, then so be it. the PSP is a great system with some damn good games, and it shouldnt die so soon.

If anyone doubts what I'm saying, look at the PSP hardware sale numbers. They're quite high.
Now look at the PSP software sale numbers. they're terrible.
Thus, people are buying PSPs, but no PSP games. there's only one conclusion that can be drawn from that.

even though I sold mine, I think the PSP is still a great system. I wish I had it for Ratchet.

                        First, what is a sps?

                        Second, so it will happen?

The PS3 initially had metrics that looked like that, and it had nothing to do with piracy. I'll grant you that the PSP finally has some good games, but they took a hurting when their first year produced nothing worth playing on the PSP beyond Lumines.

I haven't owned a portable system since the GBC, so I don't know much about the firmware wars or homebrew scene, but I've seen a lot of people talking about wanting to use homebrew for legitimate use. I'm sure some of them are simply spouting BS and they want pirated games, but Sony is really going to **** off its community--some of whom are super-hardcore gamers who might spend thousands of US$ a year--if they try to crush the homebrew scene.

Finally, isn't the PSP (unlike the DS) region-locked? On a holistic level, I really don't see much of a reason for that, and it will DEFINITELY cause the PSP to take a hit in game sales as compared to the DS.

I'm all for slamming down on jerks who won't pay for the games but what are they doing about? There hasn't been an announcement or anything regarding the PSP in quite some time.

                              WTF are they waiting for?
