    Windows Vista

I'm not used to this thing. I want to flip out at it but then I want to give it a chance. My new laptop came with it. Compared to other versions of Windows I was brought up on, its a pretty big depature (though using the same interface, its not saying much) and personally, it feels overdone to me.

    Here's some grabs-

    Desktop

    Start Menu

    Windows Explorer in Vista.

    IE and the volume control.

So its basically the same ****. And you have to wait for all your favorite programs to update their compatibility. Certain things have been tweaking and messing up here and there.

The system prompts from Microsoft are annoying as hell. They freeze up and darken your screen, asking for your approval or selection whilst putting everything on hold.

Haven't got around to using anything else on it or finding anything to note.

So yea. Why was this released again?

      Re: Windows Vista

I'm not sure if I'd want to get Vista right away. Right now, it's too expensive, and I'm in no hurry to fiddle with whatever new features it has. Personally, I'm more comfortable with XP since I use it on a daily basis and it's worked well for me--I don't have any need for an upgrade at this time.

I'ld like to say I told you so, but I don't specifically recall telling you it was gunna blow. They had big plans, and all their major stuff they had to scrap cause they couldn't get it working right... They did steal quite a few good ideas from mac, like all the window tabbing type buttons and dashboard items...
I could get a copy of vista for practically nothing cause my band teacher's husband works at microsoft. I got XP for 10$. But then I realize I already have a superior and safer operating system...so bleh.

I get Vista free with my Academic Alliance MSDN account, but I don't want to upgrade yet either. I've used Vista a lot because I'm working on deploying it at my office, and I just don't like how it feels. I'm sure I'll be able to get used to it eventually, I just don't want to yet.

            Re: Windows Vista

Well apparently the home basic version doesn't even come with a new interface so that might be easier to get used to, and a waste of $100. Though I'm sure Vista is now the best windows out there it doesn't really seem a giant leap above XP or 2000. Though they added more search versatility they still have really not sped it up all that much as they still don't have a DB backed file system like almost every other OS. But hopefully there will eventually be a way to turn off the system alerts, cause if it's anything like the new Mac commercial that will get really annoying. Reminds me of a program called Black Ice.

So after looking at what it adds it's not worth full price unless you just don't have windows already. Until they force people to buy it by other companies only developing for it. And they completely stole the interface from Mac, not sure that was the best move.

              Re: Windows Vista

Unless it SOMEHOW allows me to play high-end games with a ATI Radeon 9000 (which is impossible for Windows to do) It's really not much of a use for me.

                    Re: Windows Vista

Apparently Vista is terrible for games right now. If you've got 2gigs or ram, Vista is using 1gig of that just to run. Theres also some other stuff Ive read where people are testing it out saying that most high end games are running 15-30% slower on vista.

Let's all get Macs and use their Windows emulaters.
                        ...and that's why.

It wouldn't even run starcraft on it.
