Who still has RM1 and would play a game for it?

I'm reading a book right now called The Last Kingdom, by Bernard Cornwell, its a good book and I think I can pull it off using RM1, its about the Danes taking over England in 800-900AD era

Another question is how much memory does RM1 have to it compared with RM3?

A lot of people still have RPGM1, and RPGM1 games still get a lot of downloads. I would happily play a new game for it.

as for memory, you're in luck. You have no limits. The software lets you use as many scenario cards (where event data is stored) as you want, and I figured out a trick long ago that lets you use as many system cards (where everything else is stored) as you want. I even made a playable tutorial for the trick. RPGM1 is the only console RPG Maker where you can really make a game as big as you want.

EDIT: just ran a member search (http://www.pavilionboards.com/forum/memberlist.php?do=search) and it looks like 235 pavilion members still have RPGM1.

Woohoo:golfclap, but I'm assuming the user has to switch mem cards at one point, so is it a pretty hefty amount of memory before you have to switch or is it fairly easy to hit?

The cool thing about RPG Maker 1 memory is that it has no limit from what I understand, as long as you have enough memory cards. Lantis, for example, is working on a game that is multiple memory (what is it, eight?)cards long. I'm no authority on this though.

Also, do you have a Dex Drive? You know that the Max Drive won't work with RPG Maker 1. If I had a Dex Drive, I'd play lots of games that people have made. Oh well. Maybe one day.

EDIT: I took a long time with the post, so some info is duplicated here. I hadn't seen the other posts at the time of mine.

You can initiate the switch at any time. great places for system card changes are whenever you move to a different continent, that way each one has it's own system card (keep in mind you can typically fit an entire game on one system card) and you don't run into back-tracking problems where places no longer exist on the new card. if they want to go back to a different continent, they just switch system cards again.

Scenario card switches are done whenever you're done with the old scenario data. You don't have to fill a card with either data to do a switch.

Dex Drives can still be found on amazon and ebay. you shouldnt have much trouble. typically they go for around $10-15.

I use RPG Maker 1... I'm currently working on a game for it. And I would love to have some new games to play.

And Lantis' game is 15 scenario memory cards...

The only thing I'm not going to like is the no keyboard thing:(

Wow... Its amazing that people still talk about emulators and whatnot. I thought I was like the only one still out there...

Either way, though, wouldn't you still need the Dex Drive to upload the game itself? I still own RM1 and even though I didn't know that there was an infinite memory card thing going on, I've never gotten far enough into a game to need that sort of thing aside from the custom sprites...

(I didn't vote because I have it and I'm interested in games for it, but I have no way to download games)

Still have rpgm1, my PSone (its so small and cute), memory cards, and dex drive.

I just need to find a serial to usb convertor pin.

I plan on playing some games and living up some good old times once I do.

As for having no keyboard, trust me... you will get used to it.

After a while using RM1 I can type as fast on that as I can on computer.

it would need to decode the dex drive saves first then convert them to the virtual memory card. As far as I know you can't do that.

epsxe is compatible with gme files.

Really? I can't ever get epsxe to work so I use pSX, I thought they wherfe the same except one you don't have to screw around with plugins.

I gotta investigate on that.

I still have my copy around :)

I remember watching videos and small trailers for the game almost every day in the months leading up to its initial release. And when it DID come out, I spent endless days and nights on it.

Any RPG Maker game, no matter what system it's on, always gets me excited.

I feel sad that so few games used custom tiles. RPGM1 could actually allow for very convincing modern or futuristic settings if you are good with art.

Nevermind your artistic skills! If you found a pic of ...anything online you could go through it pixel by pixel and recreate it. I did this for a lizardman sprite because trying to edit the dragon was too much of a pain.

Don't get me wrong: its not easy and it takes forever, but it is possible. ;)

Ive done that quite a few times, had mario and yoshi running around before, I found some old NES 16 bit screenshots and zoomed in

I've made my own completely custom art as well(eg. no reference image). That SWAT team officer I did was done pixel by pixel without a reference image. Took a good amount of time though.

All my tiles did not use a reference image.

The image of the game's main antagonist, however, was incomplete. It looked a little on the cartoony side. But this one did use a reference image, being the Asura.

With or without a RI, the program is extremly versital in that respect. The newer RMs could backtrack a bit to become much more popular (for the next release)

If they made a console version of RPGM XP, using those large memory sticks the next gen systems have, it would be perfect. Perhaps even make the memory save an executable.

Why not just get it for PC?

I still play this every once in a while. The problem I have is that I start projects and never finish them.

Yep. Own it, still use it. It's my favorite RPGM so far.
